When Alonso (5-0) makes the trip to Plant City Friday to face the Raiders, Ravens QB Brandon Hawkins will likely be the starter.
His start is contingent upon the swelling in his right shoulder receding.
The junior hurt his right, throwing shoulder one play into the second quarter during the Ravens’ 20-14 Thursday night win against visiting Bloomingdale. The injury came on a third-and-11 scramble. After avoiding a sack, Hawkins picked up 4-yards, but jammed the shoulder on the tackle.
Alonso coach Brian Emanuel said as long as the swelling to the shoulder continues to subside and Hawkins is pain-free, then he will play in the their non-district game against Plant City (5-0). Emanuel said there was no tear.
Before the injury, Hawkins finished the night 6-of-6 passing for 66 yards. He also had seven yards rushing.
In his absence, the Alonso offense utilized backup QB Ethan Winget as well as RB Brandon Holloway in a wildcat formation. Winget completed 1-of-2 passes, which went for a 43-yard TD, while Holloway ran 17 times for 148 yards and one score.
