Alonso’s 2011 Class 6A state champion baseball team will be honored at 9 a.m. Sept. 8 by Hillsborough County’s Board of County Commissioners.
The ceremony will take place inside the second-floor boardroom of the County Center, 601 E. Kennedy Blvd. in downtown Tampa.
The Ravens (23-5) beat Deltona, 12-7, inside Digital Domain Park in Port St. Lucie to win its second title in three years. To do so, Alonso had to first erase a 7-4 deficit.
Honored will be graduates: Matt Brandy (St. Pete College), Chris Chism (St. Pete College), Ronnie Cannon (Santa Fe College), Michael Fahrman (University of Florida), Dylan Gross (Warner University), Chris Mejia (Warner University) and DJ Shives (University of South Florida). Former pitcher Jose Fernandez is currently assigned to the Florida Marlins’ Gulf Coast League team. Fernandez was selected 14th overall by Florida in June. Returning players who will also be honored are seniors Nick Alonso, Juan Bracamonte, Joe Gainey, Nathan Hahn, Alex Smith and Ryan Valdes; juniors Napo Ballestero, Cody Beckman, Austin Gonzalez, Tommy Lynch and Ryan Shives; and sophomores Jordan Ding, Alex Faedo, Joe Overton, Wyatt Reid and Miguel Zapata.
Additionally the coaching staff, led by head coach Landy Faedo, as well as assistants Ben Beckman, Joe Brautigam, Ken Reid, Todd Silverman, and Pete Toledo will be honored.

One person was left off the list - Graduate Ronnie Cannon who is attending Santa Fe. I’m sure that was an accidental oversight.
