This was a task that Alonso baseball coach Landy Faedo didn’t mind.
Friday morning inside the school’s media center, Faedo dolled out lettermen jacket patches and state title championship rings to members of the 2011 Ravens baseball team.
“It was nice,” Faedo said. “It was a moment to go back and reflect on what we accomplished last year and it was also nice to think about, you know what, we out in a lot of hard work and we were able to accomplish that goal.”
The rings were a memento for the team, which beat Deltona, 12-7 in May for the Class 6A state championship. Each ring featured the players’ last name, the team’s final record as well as a blue “A” logo, among other elements. More importantly, the “A” sat atop of a bed of diamonds.
As easy as it could be to get lost in the celebration, Faedo has a feeling this group will work just as hard to place itself in the championship hunt in 2012.
“I think they all know that it happened and it’s over with,” Faedo said. “It’s good to reflect on it, but we took one week off after we won this championship and then we were right back into the grind – lifting, conditioning and stuff like that.”
He’s hoping all that work will lead to him filling out another set of order forms for next season’s rings.
