TAMPA - Bucs general manager Bruce Allen says he knows how the Monte Kiffin saga will end, but he wasn’t willing to share that with anyone.
Allen just spoke, primarily to address the Bucs selection as one of the team’s that will play a regular-season game in London next year, but he was asked about the Kiffin situation as well.
He said he has spoken with Monte on the topic of coaching with his son Lane many times in the past and knows how this will end. He said, however, that he would leave it to Kiffin to tell the rest of the world.
Reading into that, you get the feeling Kiffin is indeed leaving this time. If not, why hasn’t someone with the Bucs, or Kiffin himself, said so.

I would hate to see Monte leave but let’s be honest. We have lost a lot of great young coaches over the years to other teams because Monte has been in the way. Monte is not a young guy so the day is coming regardless whether it’s to follow Lane to UT or retirement. We have some fabulous young defensive assistants that could step in if Monte leaves. If it’s this year or in the next few the day is coming.

I get the impression from what Allen said that he’s not leaving. Based on the part where you said Bruce has spoken to Monte about it before, that leads me to believe it will be the same outcome as we have always seen. But maybe I am just being optimistic. I really don’t want to see him go, the Bucs would not be the same without him.

Please stay Monte! Retire from football as a Buc. And then we can let Derrick Brooks be the defensive coordinator when Monte decides to leave. He knows the defense inside and out.
