TAMPA - The pre-draft rumor mill is really cranking right now, and the Bucs are right in the thick of what’s being churned out.
Not sure if we can really quantify the following as a rumor, though, since Jay Glazer of Fox Sports has already talked to the principle involved - disgruntled Kansas City Chiefs defensive end Jared Allen.
According to Glazer, Allen says the Bucs and Vikings have already held trade talks regarding Allen and that Allen expects a deal to get done with someone before the draft.
“It’s a situation that works out best for both sides,” Allen told FOXSports.com. “I can go to a team that is competing for a championship right now. The Chiefs can get valuable draft picks to rebuild with.”
The report said Allen was headed to Minnesota to meet with the Vikings this weekend and that he has plans to meet with the Bucs next week. That may be the case but Allen also told a colleague in Kansas City a few minutes ago that he’s currently headed to a funeral and that he’ll talk with the media in KC on Monday.
As for the trade, it’s hard to say precisley what it would take to pry Allen away from the Chiefs, but a first- or second-round draft pick or a package of picks is a good guess. Allen is, after all, the league’s reigning sack leader and the Chiefs probably aren’t eager to get rid of him.
This whole mess with Allen started when the Chiefs slapped the franchise tag on him. Allen didn’t like that and he has yet to sign the franchise tender. That in essence makes him a free agent.
One thing to keep in mind on all of this is that Allen’s agent, Ken Harris, lives here in Tampa. That doesn’t mean trade talks between the two parties aren’t legit but it’s possible the talks were very casual.
We’ll stay on top of this as best we can and give you details as they’re made available.

If corner and receivers are such a need why didn’t we sign anyone in free agency.None of those receiver was overpaid-go look it up!The bucs only want to pay players they can get for cheap and all of them are second and third tier players. It amazing that alot of you guys are putting you chips on White-don’t believe the hype.

There are no receivers in the first round thats really a first rounder.Ross was a great pick for the gaints-that pick was perfect for them.I think the bucs don’t want to draft a CB with that first pick because they play a cover-2-where you really don’t need a great CB-its a zone defense.Thats all we play is a zone.White can’t play the run and there is no pass rush from Hayes.
Most likely we won’t sign Allen because they want to much-our defense will face some great o-lines this year and White will not show up.

we need to focus on “areas” of need...reciever and corner are needs...we have 5 de i believe on our roster...save our picks...we only have 5 this year...why pay someone 9 0r 10 mil when you can get the same productive from a player for a much less price...white is goin to be fresh at the start of the season cause he isnt playin with orlando before hand which will really help...the d line really came together at the end of the season..our secondary has a bigger hole in it losing kelly...i personal see us drafting mike jenkins if hes still there at 20...than in the second i say andre caldwell if hes still on the board....GO BUCS!

Dex, there are 5 1st round CB’s in this year’s draft and a pool of WR that are between 1st and 2nd round. Between those 2 positions, I believe we have our 20th pick. Remember who the Giants drafted at 20 last year? A CB (Aaron Ross) who helped them win the SB. I’m not saying there’s any correlation there, but we have a need at CB and the talent pool is very deep. A CB who can also return kicks and punts is a big plus in my book. But personally, I’d take Jonathon Stewart if available and go WR in round 2. I think he’s going to be a beast, but that may be a pipe dream.

Mitch, there are no DT or WR in the first round at the 20th pick for us.This move will help our secondary so much,we’ll have two great DE’s for the future-think about it.We did a o.k job last season stopping the run but we couldn’t get to the QB fast enough.Allen will allow us to blitz again-remember those days?If we sign Allen this could be something great for our d-line-the cover-2 is based off of guys like Adams and Allen.

Where is that “Tiger Woods like” free agent you promised us Bruce Allen!!! Pass rush (Giants) or 21 points guaranteed on Offence(Patriots) gets you to Superbowls! Had it on D when the bucs won before and need it now. Adams is a good not great DE but White just looks mean. Get Jared Allen or Chad Johnson and give up the draft picks cus there isn’t any talent for the bucs in WR or CB in the 20th draft position anyway. Ocho Cinco would look awesome in a Bucs jersey BUT he is cousins with Keyshawn...remember the past? We need Joey Galloway/Chad Johnson on Offence or White/Allen on D to host our own Superbowl this year.

Hey Dex, Allen is definitely an upgrade but at what cost? He’s going to want close to $9 million and in a few years, he’s going to want to renegotiate. Sure, he’s a sack machine, but who to say that Greg White can’t improve to double digit sacks next year and in a few years, he could be just as productive. I see a high upside to White and a little cost, which leaves money to improve other areas. Adams is going to be a sack machine too. Remember the last 7 games of ‘07 and him flattening Eli in the playoff game? I think we’re fine at DE for ‘07. Let’s concentrate on DT, WR, CB and QB.

DON’T WORRY ABOUT IT.... HE’S GONNA BE A VIKING!.... MONEY TALKS ! BUT YOU CAN ALWAYS WATCH HIM AND THE VIKINGS IN THE PLAYOFFS. HE’S SIGNING AS WE SPEAK. LOL.

Allen is an upgrade-White is a backup. You put the best product on the field, you improve your team, white had a good year last year but Allen had a great year.Come on guys use some common sense.Allen is a proven sack machine and he is only 26yr old.

Don’t do it. He has been suspended for multiple DUIs. One more and he’s suspended for a YEAR. He is a great player but too much of a risk for a probable first round + another pick.

The cost is way too high and I’m not just referring to draft picks. This guy is going to want Dwight Freeny money. Personally, I’d rather see the Bucs spend that money on extending contracts of the current group we have and sign our draft picks and anyone else who looks intriguing after cuts from other teams.

I would want the Bucs to make a deal for Chad Johnson rather than Jared Allen. Chad just wants a good chance to win, money, and to be in Florida. The Bucs have all of those. He is a great player than the Bucs are in need for so why not trade the first round pick. Barber, Buchanon, Wilson, and some rookie can probably hold for this season, its not like we play alot of man coverage.

if we had more picks this year id say pull the trigger...this team has more needs to focus on than de...i think we just need to get haye and white taken care of asap...they both deserve having a pay raise and a nice contract...why break up a solid foundation when its working...corner and reciever needs to be the focus of this team right now...alot of people may disagree with me on this...but having mike jenkins in our secondary sounds really good to me…

We may already have as good a player in White, why screw up this draft when we only have 5 picks??? Why would anyone want Simms or Clayton, some of you guys must be smoking something before you type your opinion!!!
Posted by Mitch R, NYC on 04/18 at 02:39 PM
And another thing, what makes any of you think that we can land BOTH Chad Johnson and Jared Allen? What bargaining chips do you think we have. Gee, Bengals, here’s Chris Simms and Michael Clayton, ready to trade Chad Johnson? Oh and Chiefs, how about a 3rd round pick and a 5th round pick for the NFL sack leader? You people are delusional. Personally, I don’t want either. Chad Johnson is not a winner, and is a selfish SOB, and Jared Allen is one incident away from a suspension. Greg White and Gaines Adams are only going to get better, so where is Allen going to play? Do we bench Greg White, who chipped in 8 sacks last year in his rookie season or do we sit Adams who had 5 sacks in the last 7 games?

Simple the guy is 26 and barely in his prime, Defense win championships. Bring him over with a 2nd and 3rd round draft picks or a combination of players and picks. You are talking about a proven player not somebody who may be a bust in the draft. I can see it now Adams on one side and Allen on the other side for many years to come....GO BUCS !!!

Lots of options have been presented here. But what makes anyone think KC would take our castoffs? 1st and 3rd is doable - this isn’t a great draft from the 20th spot.
Posted by Mitch R, NYC on 04/18 at 12:30 PM
Some of you people are INSANE. Before typing, think...Why would the Chiefs get rid of their best defensive player for Chris Simms (who has not played in 1.5 years, Michael Clayton (who has been and underachiever for 2+ years) and a 3rd round pick? Where’s the logic in that? To put it in easier to understand terms, that’s like someone wanting to trade a ‘95 pickup, a ‘03 Honda Accord and $600 cash for a brand new Mercedes. Just because we may not want these players, doesn’t mean someone else will take them.

We need to be trying to go after Chad Johnson. We need a quality receiver way more than an end

Giving up a No.1 and another pick when you only have five picks is not a very bright move. The Bucs greatest needs are WR, CB, QB and then DL. White and Adams are doing just fine thank you. The offense desperately needs a game breaking receiver, either with speed or height. Don’t screw this one up Mr. Allen.

You people are hilarious. If any team gets him in a trade they most likely give up TWO first round picks. How do you people think we can just throw a 3rd rounder and a couple of our crappy unwanted players at the Chiefs and they’ll be excited about that? Some of you really need a reality check.
Haye and White really stepped up last year and deserve a chance to prove it wasn’t a fluke. Hovan is a good player too. The only thing we need on our D-Line is a force in the middle....we need a Warren Sapp like dude again. We DO NOT NEED another DE and it would be incredibly stupid to give up our first round pick on one.
We need a CB, WR, and DT. We keep are picks and get what we need in the draft.

Get it done. Anytime the league’s leader in sacks becomes available you simply get it done. I think Jared Allen’s is more talented than any other player we would draft at #20. Players that we can afford to trade and who could help out the Chiefs: Chris Simms, Dan Buenning, Jermaine Phillips, Michael Clayton, Ryan Nece. I think Bruce Allen will pull the trigger the first chance he gets. Bruce for President if he can pull this one off! Just imagine, Gaines at one DE and Jared at the other. Go BUCS!

As much as I would LOVE to see the Bucs pull the trigger on Allen, there’s no way it’s going to happen, simply because of our draft position, besides the Vikings, there are several teams with Higher draft picks, especially in the top 5, I feel these teams will salivate (like the Bucs) for a proven superstar, and easily give up un proven draft picks for a sure thing, so unless the Bucs package someone that would break all of our hearts, I don’t see the Cheifs dealing with the Bucs, not this time folks, sorry.

Look what the Giants had and won a ring. Look what we had and won a ring. PASS RUSH. Period. Do it.

im sorry but behinds samuels and moss..i believe they were overpaid...the reason why is because so many teams had alot of money in free agency so they were able to give them that much money...y do you think we didnt sign any recievers..all of them were second or third recievers that wanted what a starter makes or they were a big injury risk…
