University of South Florida safety Nate Allen, who had two interceptions and a team-high eight tackles in a 34-20 win against Syracuse, was named Big East Conference defensive player of the week on Monday. Allen was part of a USF defense that tied a school record by forcing eight Orange turnovers.
USF wide receiver Carlton Mitchell, who had six catches for a career-high 139 yards and two touchdowns, was named to the weekly Big East honor roll.

Was it a layoff, fired, quit, ill? Those of us who have followed the rise of the Bulls with Brett, after Joey left the beat, deserve an explanation, Even if it is a simple one.

Does anyone have an email for Brett?

I’m not sure of the circumstances, but he told me he’s no longer with the Trib. He’s now working for fanhouse.com covering the Big East and is also accessible on Twitter.

Brett is now working at fanhouse.com. He is covering college football and basketball.
He will be in Baton Rouge, La., this weekend covering the LSU-Florida game.
For anyone interested, his new email address is:

Thank you , Mr. Becnel. To put it in a manner that is fit to print - I am very disappointed that Brett was not given the opportunity to say good-bye to his readers here and if that doesn’t make sense in the context of whatever happened - it would have been nice for the newspaper or the sports department to provide a statement to the readers regarding Brett’s departure. Poorly handled, once again, by the Tribune. The Tribune should be doing all it can to serve its remaining readers, not alienate them. C-o-m-m-u-n-i-c-a-t-i-o-n. How ironic.

Get over it Doug, how do you know if was the Trib’s fault? McMurphy probably chose to not say goodbye

“it would have been nice for the newspaper or the sports department to provide a statement to the readers regarding Brett’s departure.”
I have exchanged emails with Brett and he stated that his leaving was for career and professional reasons. If there was anything unpleasant that happened, he didn’t say. He thought the Trib would put a statement on the blog.
Good luck and best wishes to Brett. Y’all read Fanhouse, too. And we look forward to getting to meet and know Brett’s successor.
Go Bulls!

Will there be a successor—a person dedicated to USF sports?
