Bucs Report
All Quiet On Free-Agent Front - For Now

It’s been about 24 hours since we’ve heard from the agents for TE Alge Crumpler and DT Rod Coleman.

That’s a pretty good indication both are deep in negotiations, likely with the Bucs, though we know for certain that several teams are interested in both players.

It’s a good bet that the negotiations for both players will spill over into the scouting combine, where the agents can speak face to face with the GMs. There’s even a chance the two players will end up in Indianapolis.

Both are coming off some serious injury problems and anyone interested in signing Crumpler or Coleman will want to have them examined by their medical staff before agreeing on a deal.

With those staffs all in Indy for the combine, it would make lots of sense and no doubt expedite the signing process if both players flew in for interviews and medical exams.

If that happens we’ll let you know. And as soon as we get an update on the negotiations we’ll pass that along as well. Keep in mind, though, that a lot of agents aren’t into providing updates.

They’ll tell you when a team is expressing interest and when a client is planning a visit, but once the negotiations start they usually shut things down until a deal is either dead or done.

By the way, something to keep in mind on the Coleman front is the fact the Bucs have yet to tender a new contract offer to DT Jovan Haye, who is a restricted free agent.

The Bucs have until Feb. 28 to submit the tender, so there’s plenty of time to get that done. But they may be waiting to see how the talks with Coleman go before offering that tender.

Its all about the contract.  As long as they limit the exposure bring in whomever has a chance to be explosive.

Crumpler made Mike Vick look like a good passing QB.

Coleman?  he is the best Rush tackle in the league when health...A healthy Colman and our D gets very dangerous.

if the contracts don’t guarantee too much then these are good moves. these are great moves

Hey Roy, how about we remove the NYG / Bucs scoreboard at the top of all these articles and replace it with the final division standings ?

The Bucs WILL win the division again next year, so lets get used to being in the top spot !

While we are waiting on news, let’s have some fun - how about bringing Sapp out of retirement to play TE!?!?!?

Please make sure the physical examinations are thorough.  Crumpler spending half the season on the IR does nothing for us.  A history of injury seems to be the attraction each offseason.... See Luke Petitgout from last year for proof.

These 2 players plus a game breaking WR and you can make a reservation for the Buccaneers in the playoffs.

Roy, I was at the Atlanta game where Crumpler had a coming out party in 2004. One of his TD’s was 50 yds and he blew by two members of our defensive backfield. It’s a little odd because he is hard to bring down and looks more like an offensive lineman than a TE. I can’t imagine having him + a QB like Garcia that can get him the ball. If we had Crumpler and Alex Smith, we would have the two best pass catching tight ends in the NFC South on our team.
