GAINESVILLE—After one quarter, the University of South Florida Bulls are leading the Florida Gators, 7-0.
The score came on a 2-yard touchdown pass from QB B.J. Daniels to TE Andrew Ketchel, culminating a 17-play, 96-yard drive that, in my humble opinion, was the most impressive march in school history.
Florida went three-and-out on its opening drive, then was pushed all over the field by USF’s offense, which registerede nine consecutive running plays before attempting a pass. The Gators got a pair of first downs on their second drive, but on third-and-10, WR Omarius Hines was limited to 6 yards on a pass from QB John Brantley.
USF has gained 102 total yards to 32 for UF.
UF has 50 consecutive victories against unranked non-conference opponents, dating to 1988, so this one would send some serious shock waves if it holds. But it’s hot and steamy down there, and we’ve got a long, long way to go.
But the start for USF? Perfect, perfect, perfect.
