Q: Hey guys. It seems like some areas the Bucs have the most dire concerns are in areas that they actually have recently made first round draft selections to resolve (RB - Williams; and DE - Adams). My two-part question is: Do you think the Bucs will look to target the RB position for another upgrade (specifically someone with better hands than Williams); and although only his first year, do you see promise for Gaines Adams that he will get better at rushing the passer or do we need to address that again this offseason? Thank you very much!—Frank Stazzone, Long Island, N.Y.
A: I think it will take the better part of two years for Williams to come back, and then there’s no guarantee he’ll regain the form he had. For that reason I think the Bucs will look very hard during free agency at another back and will take one high up in the draft. I think they’ve done a good job of positioning themselves for now by adding Michael Bennett. Bennett, Earnest Graham and Michael Pittman are a good group. Not great, but good. As for Gaines Adams, he just needs time to develop. If Adams, Greg White and Greg Peterson can develop into good pass rushers the Bucs should be fine - in time.

Our draft priorities in order
1. QB
2. RB
3. WR
We will search free agency for our defensive acquisitions. I’m so excited 20-30 MILLION available next year!!!

I totally agree with Backams comments. this team needs a under tackle to disrupt the opposing QB’s in the worst way. Earnest can carry the load next year, with Pittman backing him up, but premium D-tackles are hard to find in this league..and for good reason. Give Monte a dominant line again and you’ll see this team back into Super Bowl form.
Like Monte said after the draft...you only have one football to go around. Why draft more running backs?

We have all these critics on Michael Clayton. Its true he has dropped some passes and if graded solely on this, the fans need to relearn the game of football.
I have seen this guy destroy defensive players on both run and pass plays and believe it or not make catches on bad throws. Jeff Garcia is praised and I love this guys spunk but the truth is a lot of his passes are off the mark and the receivers often make spectular catches. Have you ever tried to catch a ball thrown behind you or right at your shoulders on a slant pattern. This is a big guy not a Santana Moss so give him a break, unless you expect him to be Superman.

On Gaines Adams; Adding about 20 pounds of muscle, especially in the upper body and this guy will be scary for the opposing quarterback and I don’t think the Bucs need to shore up their defensive line except for the middle where a large body with strength to plug the middle.
We don’t want to give up on Gaines as he will be all pro within a few years.
You can put that in your file titled “I told you so”.

Our D-line is allowing opposing Qbacks too much time to find open receivers.Let’s start blitzing more often and rattle the Qback. Put a package in for Romo,Hassleback,Favre, if we plan on the playoffs.Consider converting Gaines to outsidelinebacker
to rush the passer from the standing position.Play him the way NYG did w/ Lawrence Taylor. White and Spires are out performing him anyway.Kevn Carter is quick to fatigue, tends to give up on certain plays. Look what he did as a player w/the Rams in 2000 Super Bowl. Caddilac can’t catch, block,is injury prone w/fublelitis. His positive is; a decent hard runner. How bout drafting Jacob Hester out of LSU. He has a history of holding on to the ball after the catch or hit. He can replace Alstott.

Hey Kinzer, you are right....Clayton really is another 1st round mistake, but Galloway and Hilliard are covering up for him. Here is a question to throw out there....can you imagine how much better T. Jackson and J. Phillips would be if we had consistent pressure on the QB?? I agree with Blackham, if we get another young stud for the D-Line, we have some serious defensive potential for a long time.

Another great game by Gaines Adams yesterday. Like I said, this kid is starting to get it and it couldn’t happen at a better time. Go Bucs!

Gaines Adams is playing both LE and RE. The kid is doing everything we’re asking him to do. I’m watching the Cards@Bucs game on DVR right now and I’ve noticed through the first 3 1/2 quarters that Gaines Adams has consistantly put pressure on Warner from each side of the line. He’s forced 5 bad passes from my count and he even made a play on the ball while playing some flat zone coverage from the LE spot. This kid’s light bulb is starting to come on. Go Gaines, Go Bucs!

Running backs don’t come back from patellar tears. Still, I feel we are more pressed at D-line. Its an odd thing where you like each individual player, White, Adams, Haye, and even vets Carter , Hovan, and Spires. But they need a stud. Brad Culpeper was solid, but with Sapp next to him he was real good. You can say the same about Steve White & Spires himself, when Sapp and Rice were there they were better players.
I like Gaines Adams the person, and I am seeing progression, but I don’t see superstar in him nor do I see a leader. I see a role player that needs to play along side of a premier defensive tackle (or opposite a premier defensive end) for his role to be effective.

Gregory, I don’t agree we can’t stop the run, I think we have done pretty well this year, especially considering how young many of those in the rotation are. I do, however agree we need some beef in the middle to help plug it up inside better than we have been playing. We may already have that guy tho in Sims. After losing weight he is between 315 and 320 and is a real run-stopper. He can even play some UT. He has been learning the d and we may see him play more and more in the coming weeks.

The Defensive line still cannot stop the run. The Buc’s desperately need a run stopper, i.e., a BIG body to plug the line. I know, it runs counter to Monty Kiffens lean and mean defensive scheme. Guess what? We need the beef!

Gaines is going to be a great pass rusher for us. He gets better every game, and eventually he’ll be dominating. We need a real under tackle and the D will be tops again.

Unless Cadillac is still on IR next year one of these backs is going to be in a different jersey next season if we draft a back high. We’re not going to keep them all on the active roster. Somebody’s gonna be getting shipped out in the off season. I personally love what Earnest Graham has showed this season. He rarely has a rush for negative yards. But he may be worth a decent draft pick at the end of the season and be too hard to pass up on. As far as 3-Tech DT goes. I think thats something we should go after in free agency. D-lineman usually take a little longer to develop and i don’t think we want to be developing a DT and a DE at the same time.

I’m sorry Roy but I don’t think the Bucs can afford to overlook the D line next year, whether Adams pans out or not. D line is the only reason Kiffen doesn’t have these guys back at #1 in the NFL, and with Spires and Carter getting older, they can’t afford to take a RB high in the draft. Kudos to the team for finding Ruud, T. Jackson, and Buchanan but Monte needs another draft to brings this group back and dominate once more. This tends to happen when you draft almost exclusively offense four years in a row.

I heard from someone that the injury Cadillac Williams got may be career ending. Is this true? If so, do you think the bucs will go after Micheal Turner from the chargers, or draft another back?

James you’re right.. Biggest BUST in recent years.. Michael Clayton, they don’t let him go because that would expose the eye this team has for “talent”..cadillac is another bust waiting to blowout as well as gaines adams. Please take a QB high up this 08 class is deep on qb’s, but our needs are: Rb,WR,DT,DE,QB....

As for the running backs I think Bennett was a good short term solution. I love his speed and the mismatches he creates for the offense, he is a great compliment back with his rare speed and has the homerun threat anytime he touches the ball, but is not an every down back. Pittman is still great out of the backfield and is a good third down back or fullback for our offense. We need to add a featured back during the offseason to help level out our backfield. And with the combination of Bennetts speed, Pittmans hands, and a featured back that can carry the load our offense will be steady. Im rooting for Cadillac to get healthy but if its going to be a 2 year process it will hurt us if we do nothing this offseason.

I agree I think Gaines will come around, he just needs playing time hes got great speed and size. Team looks great so far, lets go into Atlanta and seperate ourselves from the division!

Hey Stazzone, you did not mention the biggest first round BUST,"Can’t Catch Clayton”. 4 years later, he could not make any of the other teams rosters!!!

John, I don’t agree. I think we are o.k. at rb, and Luke just maybe the qb of the future. Not quite ready to say that definitively yet. I do agree we need a wr, but I think most of all, we need a stud center to put between the 2 young guards. Buenning may be the answer to that one. I also think we need a top CB and another young stud on the DL. I also would love to see us sign someone like Jay Allen, as we are going to have to replace Spires and Carter very soon.
