Academy of the Holy Names will be without two of its top athletes this season, though one is simply switching sports.
Senior Selena Castillo, one of the county’s top runners, has decided not to participate in the upcoming cross country season and instead will focus on basketball. That’s good news for the Jaguars basketball team since senior Meaghann Ligori will likely miss her senior season with a knee injury.
Ligori was also a member of Academy’s volleyball and track and field teams. During volleyball pre-game warmups on Friday, she injured her knee.
The Jaguars basketball team’s gain will be the cross country team’s loss. Castillo helped lead Academy to its fifth district title in six years last season.
