The ever changing Internet world we delve into now is a change-of-a-dime entity, and there is no better proof of that than what happened in the past 30 minutes.
“They have asked me to waive’’ the no-trade clause, Boyle said.
Boyle did not want to discuss the specifics of when or how he was approached, or where they are asking him to move. The conversation was brief, but wanted to make sure the record was set straight.
This story will continue to develop as the day continues.
Here’s an indicator as to what the Lightning has in mind of what they fully intend to do with Dan Boyle. If you go to the Lightning homepage during the introduction of the new faces (and a couple of familiar ones), Boyle is not among those listed, which also includes Gary Roberts, Ryan Malone along with the likes of Vinny Lecavalier and Marty St. Louis. But no mention of Boyle.

Ruthe,
I hate to burst your bubble, but Kolzig isn’t defenseman. He’s a very well proven goalie.
As for MC, I will still spend the money to fly 10,000 miles one-way to see the Bolts play, with or without Boyle

Umm - Chara is in Boston and is their captain. I don’t see that as one of the options.
Suggest removalBesides - in somethings size doesn’t matter. I still remember watching Marty knock Chara down a couple of times. Still would rather have the puck moving abilities of Danny to Chara - you really can’t compare these two guys.

Mike from Bangkok- why are you such a Boyle hater anyway? He was an alternate for Team Canada in the last Winter Olympics before his breakout years and has worked his way up to where he is as an elite player in the NHL. He wasn’t anointed that like V4 or even Stamkos before they dropped their first puck. What’s your suggestion for how our D will be better w/out him? I am confident it won’t. Good luck with Kuba or Lukowich as your power play set up man.

I’ve read about a proposed deal where Boyle is shipped off to his home-town area Senators, for a top-4 D-man, and one of their up and coming wingers. It would also include some draft picks as well as trimming some payroll.
Suggest removalFace the facts, the team needs to shake it up a bit…even with Boyle back there, the D was lacking. Why not give it a change?

For all of you people who keep saying boyle plays 25-30min how many times late in a game did his line give up game tying goals or game winning goals because his A** was dragging because he was tired and couldn’t clear the puck out of our zone. The guy is in no way shape or form a top 5 defenceman in this league. Trade him now while there is a hot market for him.

Rumour has it that the Lightning like the San Jose package, which could include Carle and/or Erhoff (young defensemen), or Mclaren…....
Suggest removalPor (Mitchell Margo) on July 03, 2008 (Suggest removal)
i think that the only way they should trade Boyle is if the trade is something along the lines of this
TBL-Gives Boyle, Kuba, and Quellet
Ott-Gives Meszaros and Volchenkov
then maybe some draft picks are included but probably not any 1sts or 2nds.
Ottawa probably doesn’t even do that but if you can’t get 2 quality d-men then you don’t trade Boyle.
Suggest removalPor (Ruthe Robertson) on July 03, 2008 (Suggest removal)
Mike in Bangkok: I know Kolzig is not a defenseman. I should have put an “and” in between two unproven defensemen, Kolizg and Vrbata. I was referring to Koci and Niskala. Come on Mike, you said in one of your blogs that I was “astute” so you must be aware that I know my hockey. Shame on you.

Mitchell,
Suggest removalOttawa would never trade Volchenkov. He’s their best defensemen. And if they ever did, I would lose faith in my hometown team, and all of Ottawa would show up at Bryan Murray’s house with pitchforks and torches. So, don’t get your hopes up. If Ottawa gave up anyone it would be Meszaros and either a young d-man or Vermette…
Por (Geografer) on July 03, 2008 (Suggest removal)
As long as we are playing hypotheticals - the only way I see this with San Jose is for Carle and/or Erhoff as well as for Nabakov. If you are going to screw up the D at least get us the guy that should have won the Vezina this year.
Suggest removalPor (Jordan G) on July 03, 2008 (Suggest removal)
I hate to seem rude…..but, Nabokov? Thats not even hypothetical lol. Thats ridiculous…....but, while we’re at it….lets get Joe Thornton too! ha ha

We’ll still be driving 4 hours one way but come on, DFB was -29 in 37 games and 4 goals last year. Brad got run out of town for less. Of course Brad was supposed to score and its a bonus with DFB but still -29 in 37 is still -29 in 37.
Suggest removalIf anyone will give anything OK should take it, salary dump alone is worth it.
Did I mention a d-man with -29 in 37 games??
Por (sandy grumblatt) on July 03, 2008 (Suggest removal)
THIS HAS TO BE THE BIGGEST DUMBEST IDEA IN LUGTHNING HISTORY. AND to the few Dan Haters the reason Dan did not play as well last year was because of the surgery on his wrist NOT 1 BUT 2! I would like to see anyone perform they jobs they way they did prior to that surgery. He worked thru a lot of pain and played even when he was hurting, you could see it in his face. I had no doubt thar this years DAN would be a healthier stronger and quicker Dan of the past year.
Suggest removalPor (sandy grumblatt) on July 03, 2008 (Suggest removal)
DAN I would say NO to the trade of any team and let the bolts lose out on a trade for yoy. They just signed you to a lomg term deal then they try to kick you in the teeth.
Suggest removalDan I wish you the Best and hope the owners come to their senses and drop this CRAZY idea.
You will always have fans in Tampa.
OWNERS WHAT ARE YOU THINKING?
WHAT A JOKE?

yea jordan, i know ottawa would never trade Volchenkov, thats basically the point im trying to make. the lightning should not trade boyle unless they are going to win the trade by a landslide and people are questioning the other team for trading for boyle. I’ll say it again, i wouldn’t trade boyle unless you are getting a lot more than hes worth.
Suggest removalYou gotta love the dreams though right!
Por (Geografer) on July 03, 2008 (Suggest removal)
Jordan - not to echo Mitchell - but that is also exactly my point. You don’t give him up for just anything. Besides - San Jose just signed Rob Blake to a one year $5 million deal. Gotta wonder if they are still that interested.
Suggest removalDanny - JUST SAY NO!!!!
Por (Mike Joyce) on July 03, 2008 (Suggest removal)
If Boyle says no, he could lose his say in where he ends up. The team can waive him and whoever is first in line on the waiver wire can claim him and his salary. While it’s true that the Bolts get nothing in return, they do get rid of the salary.
If Dan wants to play hardball, he does it at his own peril. Better to have some say in where you end up than to have no say at all. Even Richards saw the benefit of that.
I have never said that Boyle was stupid; merely that he can’t play defense.
Suggest removalPor (Jordan G) on July 03, 2008 (Suggest removal)
Yes, I understand both of your points.
Suggest removalI just dont think that the Lightning will get a whole lot for Boyle. Maybe they will get two young defensemen and a pick or two, but that would most likely be all. And, depending on the defensemen, could be either a good deal or a really bad one. Hopefully it will be a good one if they do trade him.
Por (Berliner) on July 03, 2008 (Suggest removal)
SJ loves the idea of getting Boyle. If his value is at his highest right now, the smart business move says to move him, get some draft picks and your selection of defensemen. I dont know what I think about Mclaren (although I used to love the guy) given his knee-injury but he still played over 60 games last year. But I will say this, he block shots very well and is scared of nothing.
Ottawa has Meszaros to offer. And honestly, I would LOVE to pull Volchenkov away from them. Talk about a shot-blocker: we could get down to 15 S/A per game. This seems like a lot better potential than SJ. With Ottawa’s options, I really dont even know why SJ would be in the conversation, unless we are sending them Boyle for Rob Blake.
Suggest removalPor (Geografer) on July 03, 2008 (Suggest removal)
Why would you want Blake for Boyle - Blake is a stay at home d-man and is what 38 or so. All you would save on salary would be $1.667 million - not worth it. My guess too is that Robbie got himself a no-trade clause. He lives in CA year round and I am sure he isn’t willing to leave. I am actually surprised he would go that far north - Phoenix would be closer to home - of course there isn’t any surfing there (yet).

hey guys, not relating to the boyle talk but did you see this scott jackson, that the lightning signed.
Suggest removalhe’s 6 foot 4, physical and he was st. louis’s 37th overall pick but never signed with them.
this guy must have potential. thats a pretty nice signing. hopefully we hear about him in the near future.
just a little question for discussion.
Would you guys rather have 2 good young proven d-men for boyle, or one good young proven d-man and a 1st round pick for boyle? or more. i would say more.
Por (Geografer) on July 03, 2008 (Suggest removal)
Seen this kid play the last several years - a lot. Not great - not bad - but not great. Let’s just say he isn’t one of those players that you notice when they come on the ice. This has nothing to do with Boyle - this is purely a signing for Norfolk. This kid will need a few years there before he is “NHL Ready”.
Suggest removalPor (Mitchell Margo) on July 03, 2008 (Suggest removal)
oh ok, thanks for the info.
Suggest removalyea i know its got nothing to do with the big team, just trying to get excited about our minor league depth for once, lol.
hopefully he can develop into a roster player though.
man the comments just keep piling up.
if boyle doesn’t get traded, are we still in the market for a physical d-man, i still would love to have cullimore, probably won’t cost over a million.
