AATL names English softball coach

Academy at the Lakes has announced the hiring of Jerry English as its new varsity softball coach.

English was the head coach at Land O’ Lakes for 27 years and during that time, his teams won over 400 games. He was named FACA (Florida Athletic Coaches Association) Florida Coach of the Year twice, and was named twice by the NHSACA (National High School Athletic Coaches Association) as the Southeastern Coach of the Year. English also has been inducted to the FACA Florida Coaches Hall of Fame.

He replaces John Shirling, whose team went 8-9 and advanced to the Class 1A region quarterfinals. Shirling was 18-18 in two seasons.
