Hey folks, I’m back in Blogdome after a couple of days away, and I’m coming to you live from my hotel room in East Hartford, Conn., pretending to be a weatherman.
It’s cold and starting to spit a little rain, I know that. Right now, the temperature is 40 but feels like 35 according to The Weather Channel. By the time USF and UConn kick off tonight, the temperature is expected to be in the mid-to-low 30s with snow. Local forecasts project 3 to 5 inches of snow for the Hartford area tonight, so we could have some interesting weather conditions for live TV.
The game that comes to my mind is that playoff game between the Raiders and Patriots a few years back when Jon Gruden still coached Oakland.
Regardless, this will go down as one of those cold-weather games for the Bulls, who are 1-2 in games with the temperature 40 or below and just 2-4 December in school history.
The Bulls finished last season playing on a snowy field at West Virginia, losing to the Mountaineers 13-7 when Matt Grothe’s fourth-down pass to Taurus Johnson in the final minute fell incomplete.
“Our kids didn’t wear sleeves,’’ offensive coordinator Mike Canales said. “Our kids came out in the right mindset: ‘We’re going there to win a ballgame.’ I think when they take that approach … you give yourself a chance.’‘
USF’s coaching staff will be looking for that same mentality tonight.
