A look at Hawks’ home domination

It’s been nearly seven years since the Armwood Hawks have walked off Lyle Flagg Field with their heads hung in defeat.

The last time Armwood dropped a game on the field at home was in the 2002 state playoffs, when Lakeland Lake Gibson defeated the Hawks, 17-14. Since then, it’s been mostly dominant efforts in 43 consecutive wins - on the field - at home, counting regular season and postseason games.

Here are some quick facts about the Hawks’ home win streak, which will again be on the line Friday night when the Plant Panthers travel to Seffner:

  • Hillsborough, Plant, Tampa Bay Tech and Middleton each have lost four times during the Hawks current home win streak, tied for the most among any school.

  • While each of the 43 wins have been against teams from Florida, the Hawks have defeated teams from five different counties (Hillsborough, Polk, Pinellas, Lee and Miami-Dade).

  • Eleven of the Hawks’ 43 consecutive home wins have been by shutout.

  • The Hawks’ most recent home win – a 9-6 victory over Tampa Bay Tech – was the third smallest margin of victory during the win streak, behind only Armwood’s 2004 state playoff win over Miami Washington (36-35) and 2005 state playoff win over Winter Haven (23-21).
