Q: I can’t figure out why the Bucs haven’t been players in the bidding for WRs. Clearly they have the money to have matched the contracts offered to Hackett and Bryant Johnson. Do you think they’re content now to get their WR playmaker (someone like a DeSean Jackson) in the draft? Or are they waiting for some experienced veteran to become a salary cap casualty?—Paul Rybinski, Lawrenceville, N.J.
A: It’s clear the Bucs weren’t knocked out by the WR talent available in free agency. They had plenty of money to pursue Hackett or Johnson or Berrian, but they never put the full-court press on. It’s difficult to know in advance who will be available at pick No. 20 and many first-round choices take a few years before contributing significantly. At this point, the Bucs have done little to address their expressed need for speed on the flanks and in the backfield. It’s a frustrating and anxious time for Buc fans at the moment.

Well Roy and Ira, I would like to inform you that most Bucs fans are NOT frustrated and anxious. We are actually EXCITED and SATISFIED!!!!! Those are better words for you guys. Everyone is commending Allen and Gruden for their wise and efficient spending this free agency. Even ESPN has been raving over our offseason so far with productive signings, including Dunn, Wilson, Douglas, and Antonio Bryant. More help is on the way and all of us true Buc fans know it. You guys need to find another team to cover because the Bucs deserve better!!!
GO BUCS!!!!!

Yah unless you’re a fan that has figured out that Gruden and Allen got their jobs by knowing what they’re doing. Then it’s just a tedious time waiting for the season to start.

Chad Johnson was just on the nfl network about to cry cause he wants to be traded so bad. I just don’t want to lose a first round pick for him.

hello speed in the backfield we have Bennet. Also we can draft a WR. I don’t believe the talent pool of free agency was the answer. Hackett is very injury prone. Johnson is a #3 receiver never proven above that. I think they’ve been smart about spending. Remember players will be released pretty soon also!!!!

After listening to the interview Chad Johnson just gave on the NFL NETWORK. There is not a doubt in my mine the Bucs should really go after this guy.Could you only imagine if he were here.

You don’t get much speedier than Joe Galloway. We’ve only had one gun capable of hitting him deep regularly and that guy has been injured the last two years. Just having a super fast WR isn’t enough.

As I said before, I hope Bennett works out in the backfield. As for the receivers that were/are free agents, I’m not sure that tehy are any better than what we have in our stable. Weh ave plenty of #2 receivers that can’t hold onto the ball. I hate to admit it but it appears that Gruden and Allen are steering in the right direction.

I think Tampa likes those players coming from South Florida. Go after that fast WR in Round 1. Then go after that CB in Rd 2 from Appl. State or that other CB from South Florida. Then Rest of the draft go after the top player available in each of the draft.

I do not think the buccaneers are doing a very good job in free agency, im not dogging them I just think that could have done much better. im thinking a big time trade would do us good.

Hey Kaufman, please enlighten me on who the Bucs should have spent money on in Free Agency? Other than Randy Moss, was there (an available) WR worth the money? Why spend money on 2nd or 3rd tier WR’s (like Hackett, Berrian, Bryant Johnson, etc) when they are probably no better than what they currently have? As for RB, Bennett and Dunn provide enough speed in the backfield as a nice change of pace to EG. I’m not sure where you think the frustration is, but it certainly isn’t from me.
