A few quick practice observations

A few quick practice observations from this afternoon:

—Based on how the players were participating in conditioning drills, Evan Landi, Dontavia Bogan and Lindsey Lamar are working at first-team receiver, followed by Victor Marc, Derrick Hopkins and Stephen Bravo-Brown on second team. Bravo-Brown is a walk-on who impressed coaches with his work ethic over the summer.

—Former Hillsborough High standout Terrence Mitchell worked some on the punt-return team early in practice. Lamar, Hopkins and Faron Hornes, USF’s primary punt returner a year ago, also were receiving punts.

—Walk-on QB Bobby Eveld from Jesuit stands out in the crowd. Listed at 6-5, 194 pounds Eveld is tall and lean compared to freshman Jamius Gunsby, who also stands 6-4 but is listed at 235.

—Offensive line coach Steve Shankweiler, who hobbled painfully around the field in spring following hip-replacement surgery, is moving much more swiftly. He still has a limp, but nothing like the distorted shuffle he displayed in the spring.

—Still no final word on a practice schedule in Vero Beach, but sounds like an afternoon practice on Monday to kick off camp at the Vero Beach Sports Village. The team is leaving for Vero Beach Sunday afternoon after practice.

—Punter Justin Brockhaus-Kann looked better than in the spring. He and Chris Veron, a true freshman, were doing most of the punting.
