Those looking for some pregame reading today would be well-served checking out my esteemed colleague Scott Carter’s feature on FSU catcher Buster Posey, who could be the Rays’ choice with the first overall pick in the draft next month.
From all indications, Posey has been flying up everyone’s draft boards the past couple of months. Good catchers are difficult to find and he has posted some pretty outrageous numbers in the ACC this season. Plus, he seems to have the intangibles the Rays would be looking for.
There also is some recent reading available on the other player the Rays are believed to be watching most closely beyond Posey. Griffin (Ga.) High School shortstop Tim Beckham was profiled last week in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. From reading this piece, he, too, seems like a grounded young man.

I moved from Tampa before the Rays became an expansion team. Though I can not claim to be a fan of the Rays, I am excited for them. (especially since swept the Angels)
The White Sox were the team I cheered as a child. In 1990, when I moved from Tampa to LA I went to see the Dodgers but I hated the Dodgers so rarely watched Baseball. Since moving to Northern CA I have cheered the A’s. The Rays have a series coming up against the A’s in Oakland and I plan on going to one of the games. Go A’s and good luck Rays.
