A Bad Taste

What has left the bad taste in our mouths?  Was it the fact that we made Tom Coughlin, who most of the NFL world considers a joke, look like a genius?  Was it that we made Eli Manning look like a professional QB?  Was it that our QB who has been all about ball security offered up two gift-wrapped interceptions on lousy passes?  Was it that our new kick return hero put the ball on the turf?  Was it that our sure tackling defense quit tackling in the second half?  I don’t guess there is any shortage of reasons that this loss causes indigestion.

There’s no way around the disappointment of this one, because we didn’t play well.  Had we come out and traded punches for sixty minutes, stayed with the gameplan, made no mistakes, at least today you could hold your head high and say, ‘We got beat by a good team’.  I feel like we beat ourselves.  That’s the bad taste for me.  The 2007 Buccaneers should have been on a plane to Dallas.

But, we’re done.

Having said all of that, let’s put this in perspective for all the doomsdayers and naysayers commenting all over the TBO blogs, screaming fire Gruden, cut Galloway and Garcia, and so on.  Raise your hand if after last year’s 4-12 season, you thought the Bucs would win the NFC South to go to the playoffs this year.  Be careful, I have saved many of the comments and doomsday predictions.  I might have the evidence to impeach you!  How about after our early season rash of injuries?  Do you remember when some were wondering what we’d have to trade to get Reuben Droughns?

Fuss and fume all you want.  An improvement from 4-12 to a Division Title is worthy of coach of the year consideration in most cases.  Especially when it includes putting a dozen players on Injured Reserve and starting guys who were special team and practice squad players.  The real question is how the Bucs will choose to build on this year, so we don’t see a reverse in fortune.

So, let’s look ahead.  What needs to be done to take us beyond the first round of the playoffs next season?

Roland, what was that you said....G-men are done? Sounds like you need a big glass of “McQuarters” to wash down those words.

I hope you did take the Cowboys and “bet it big”. Maybe you can win your money back and bet on were Tony is taking Jessica next. Here’s a tip, it won’t be Wisconsin.

This was, by far, the best game of the season.  And the icing on the cake.... TO, crying like a baby....It’s unfair, boo hoo!!  LOL

As for next season, thanks but we’re not done with this season yet! We’re going to the NFC Championships!
Go Big Blue!!

Beelebuc you are right on the money!I really hate the fact that Gruden can’t coach young QB’s-so this mean we will always sign an old QB’s every 2-3 years.I couldn’t tell you how times I have written that gruden offensive scheme sucks. There was on play i remember screaming about-they lined up in a I formation with two tight ends and one receiver-they shifted and Grahm became a wide out and the tight ends as slot receivers-who did they scare with that shift.Who is Grahm going to blow by.I’m sick and tired of being sick and tired of gruden as a coach.

The bad taste in my mouth is how Gruden let the Team get stale by not playing like every game was a playoff game. This is a game of timing and syncronization and if the players that make a difference are not linked and synced then they will not play well. As was the case on Sunday. Stop treating these guys like kids and keep them on the field. Play hard and take what comes then, win or lose, you know there will be no doubt that you and your team gave 100%.

Furthermore our starting RB sucked, Graham is a much better starting RB; he isn’t a homerun threat, but he can catch the ball, make consistent positive yardage and isn’t injury prone.  So I won’t entertain accolades about how well the team did despite losing a loser of RB, the fact they failed to recognize the potential of Graham is yet another ding against Gruden and his Offensive staff.

Gruden should go, but if the masochists insist on keeping him around to watch him flounder and ultimately fail next season, at least replace the o-line and WR coaches.

During Gruden’s tenure at Tampa Bay, has anyone ever feared or even respected the Offense?  You do realise that’s his responsibility, right?  He’s not a Defensive minded coach, he probably knows next to nothing about coaching a Defense; so don’t attempt to defend him based upon an argument that he rebuilt the Defense.  If he has managed anything pertanent to the Defense during his tenure it would be deconstrucion of the Defense via neglect.  He finally drafted some Defense last season, I’ll give him that...he kinda had to, not like his focus on the Offense was netting anything positive.

LOL at anyone thinking the Giants are a good team. 92 is really good. Burress is a player when he’s not in the tub. And that was the difference between two mediocre teams. Your star WR was healthy and ours wasn’t.
After playing NE hard and having your D getting cooked in the 1st quater of our game, just know to take the Cowboys + the points + the teaser. And bet it big even if T.O. is out.
The G-men r done.
And good luck sniffing out 8 wins in that division next year w Eli… LOL

Chuck,
Giants key injuries:
Shockey TE
O’Hara C
Mitchell LB
Kiawanuka LB
Madison CB
Ward RB
Funn FB
Its football, ask the Colts about injuries.  I don’t know which comments got me more choked up - yours or Hillary’s.

And what type of comment would you expect from a Die hard Giants fan - Dennis.  Truth be told - Darin - your right on the mark.  We had guys playing that came from the areana league the season before.  We went searching for RB’s in the retired and has been pages.  We started a rookie at end that at the begining of the season was third on the depth chart and we were wondering if he was gonna be a bust at the #4 pick - due to his work ethic.  We had guys falling like flies and we still made it to the playoffs.  Coaching job on “O” was about a B-.  Monte - once again - you saved our butts and you deserve a hefty $$.  Pls don’t leave now - we need ya.

Sour grapes is right Den!  Darin, we all hate to lose but you WERE out-played, both O and D.  Numbers don’t lie.Maybe you shouldn’t have “rested” and 2nd paragraph, you said it yourself, “we beat ourselves”, but I can’t help to think that BIG BLUE #23!!, 92, 81, 17, 44, not to mention #27!!etc. etc. etc. may have helped, just a BIT.  And WE are on the plane to Dallas, HA HA.

Hey Dennis, I do confess the sour feeling, but as I posted, it is discouragement that we didn’t play well.  That second INT, for instance, the one that had to be reviewed - I’ll call it a gift wrapped pick because our receiver never had a play on that ball.  The DB was the only guy on the field within reach of it.  I’ll credit him for making a nice adjustment on the ball.  As for the Giants - they were who we all knew them to be.  Pedestrian numbers all around.  My perspective, we lost because we didn’t bring game.  I’ll give the Giants credit for the way they played the Pats a week ago.  They were given a bye in Tampa.  So Giants fans should be thankful.

Darin,
Sounds like sour grapes to me.  You could still hold your head high, after all you did win your division but admit you got beat by a better team.  Your O line couldn’t stop the rush of the front 4 leaving 7 in pass coverage.  Garcia had no one open, credit the Giant D there.  And the second INT had to be reviewed, not exactly gift wrapped was it.  Perhaps your defense was on the field too long - see time of possession.  You fail to recognize the execution by the Giants.  Be objective and give credit where its due.
