Even with the departure of legendary college quarterback Tim Tebow to the NFL this year, Florida Gators fans can rest assured that the Swamp will be flooded with talent.
The Southeastern Conference announced today that 10 players from UF were selected to the 2010 Southeastern Conference Coaches’ Preseason All-SEC Football Team – the most in the SEC.
Offensive lineman Carl Johnson, center Mike Pouncey and cornerback Janoris Jenkins garnered first-team selections. Pouncey was a first-team All-SEC selection by the coaches following last season.
All-purpose back Chris Rainey, running back Jeff Demps, linebacker A.J. Jones (of Tampa), safeties Ahmad Black and Will Hill, placekicker Caleb Sturgis and punter Chas Henry earned second-team nods.
With a lot of returning star starters, the Gators look poised at another SEC Championship run. A question mark, however, looms over the quarterback position.
Florida coach Urban Meyer said earlier this year that he’ll go back to the dual-quarterback system the team used in 2006 to win a national championship, with Chris Leak throwing the ball and Tebow mostly running it.
John Brantley will most likely be the starting quarterback this year after looking solid the previous two springs. Trey Burton and Jordan Reed will vie for playing time under packages that showcased Tebow during 2006 as a freshman.
