Basketball showcase tonight at Berkeley Prep

The Florida Association of Basketball Coaches Tampa Bay Futures Shootout will be held tonight at Berkeley Prep. The girls game starts at 5:30p.m., followed by the boys game. Admission is $5.

Danish, Morales, Gilcrease, Arroyo finalists for 2013 Mr. Baseball

Four Tampa Bay area baseball players are finalists for the prestigious Florida Dairy Farmers Mr. Baseball Award, which goes to the overall top baseball player in the state.

From Hillsborough County, Durant senior pitcher Tyler Danish, King senior pitcher Brett Morales and Cambridge Christian junior pitcher/centerfielder Levi Gilcrease are finalists after being named the top players in their respective classifications.

Danish was named the Class 8A Player of the Year. He led the Cougars to a state runner-up finish with a 15-1 record, 156 Ks, 16 walks and a perfect 0.00 ERA. He also hit .411 with nine home runs, 27RBI and a .756 slug percentage. Morales, the 6A Player of the Year, led King to the 6A state semifinals and was 11-2 on the mound with a 0.58 ERA, 127 Ks, 21 walks and a .147 on-base average. Offensively, he hit .296 with six doubles, two triples and 18 runs. Gilcrease, the 2A Player of the Year, helped lead the Lancers to their first state final four by batting .493 with nine home runs, seven doubles, 14 RBI, 34 runs and a .986 slug percentage. On the mound, he was 1-2 with a 0.84 ERA and 23 Ks.

From Hernando County, Brooksville senior shortstop Christian Arroyo was named 5A Player of the Year. The Florida signee led the Leopards to a 24-6 record and the regional finals by hitting .524 with 11 home runs, 13 doubles, 35 RBI, 42 runs, a .580 on-base percentage, 1.019 slug percentage and posting a .955 field percentage.
