Pasco WR Nate Craig (2016) transfers to Tampa Catholic

The Pasco Pirates football team took a hit without even taking the field today, as one of the area’s top receivers and 2016 prospects, Nate Craig, said he was transferring to Tampa Catholic on Tuesday morning.

Craig, a 6-foot-3, 200-pound sophomore who has 17 Division-I offers including Ohio State, Auburn and Florida State and it one of the nation’s top 2016 recruits, enrolled at the private school Tuesday morning, but will not be able to participate in spring football because Tuesday is the second day of the school’s semester.

Craig burst onto the Pasco County football scene in 2012 when he became a starting freshman for the Pirates that went to the Class 5A region finals. In two seasons with Pasco, he had 37 catches for 502 yards and 12 touchdowns. Craig is also the younger brother of former Pasco and Purdue player Josh Johnson, who is now with the San Diego Chargers and the nephew of Trey Dudley-Giles, who is a starting defensive back at Massachusetts.

Coach Tom McHugh said he wasn’t blindsided by the transfer.

“I knew it was coming, just didn’t know when,” McHugh said. “It was ‘in the wind.’”
