Commuters leaving Tampa will find a new route to the Crosstown Expressway’s elevated lanes. But be patient.
Road engineers are putting design touches on a long-planned Twiggs Street project they hope to start sometime in the spring. Twiggs will be reconstructed and changed from one-way westbound between Morgan Street and Ashley Drive to two-way along the street’s entire length, from Channelside Drive to Ashley.
That should help commuters heading out of town because the on-ramp for the eastbound elevated lanes, set to open Aug. 28, starts at Twiggs and Meridian Avenue. The $900,000 job should last about three months.

A national study found large disparities between judges deciding immigrants petitions for political asylum. At one end of the spectrum, a Miami judge, Mahlon F. Hanson, denied 96.7 percent of petitions when applicants had attorneys. At the other end, New York Judge Margaret McManus denied 9.8 percent. Does this make you think the system is broken? Tell us what you think.
