Publix Super Markets’ plan to offer walk-in medical clinics at selected stores. Do you think this is a good service? Would you take advantage of this? Tell us what you think.

I will not patronize a grocery store that moonlights as a medical clinic. Even major companies are beginning to ask those who are sick to stay at home to avoid weakening the ‘healthy’ workforce. Why would anyone want to shop for their dinner while being coughed on by snotty nosed kids and having to avoid those “clean-ups in isle 7”. Doesn’t sound convenient to me. I guess since Walmart has McDonalds and Subways, hair/nail salons, and vision centers, a clinic is the next “we’ll one-up-ya” lure.

I believe it is a great idea, the less people have to shuffle around to get their daily business done, the more time for their families and enhanced personal lives. Its especially helpful for parents who may need minor medical attention such as shots or antibiotics for their kids while they shop. Great idea.

I’d only go to a Publix w/o the clinic. The Sem. Hghts. Publix I go to does’nt even have a pharmacy. I won’t shop for my food in a clinic

It does sound convenient and at first glance it sounds like a good idea but…. even some doctor’s offices have well and sick entrances to their offices and they are the experts. Maybe a good compromise would be that Publix have a separate door for the clinic and provide a service where someone well shops for the sick person while the sick person is being seen in the clinic? Don’t you feel a tinge of guilt when you spread your germs among well people? I know I’ve gone to the store when I was too sick and had to actually tell people to “Stay back! For your own health!”. Friends will deliver care packages to our doors and it feels great to return the favor. On a larger note, what’s going to happen if bird flu breaks out?

The convenience of being able to get a quick exam for a prescription refill, or a child’s ear ache, combined with the convenience of having a beeper which allows you to complete your shopping if a line has formed, is a great opportunity. We encounter people all the time in markets who are ill, because people do need to shop. I welcome this opportunity, vs. spending up to an hour or two sitting in an office with others when I could be combining errands. GO Publix!

In the years of the pre and post Wild West it was common to get just about everything you needed at the General Store.
Pulled teeth, horse tack and a bath if you needed one.
Today is surely different by virtue of airborne germs being transmitted.
I panic now when someone sneezes over the vegetable rack, I run home and wash my produce in 5% bleach solution.
Also the thought of a prostate exam taking place only a few feet from the Lotto counter is revolting.
I envision going to a Publix, making a wrong turn and getting a Flu shot.
We will be sharing the same air conditioning.
It just doesn’t seem right somehow!!
