Legislation to prohibit school from starting earlier than a week before Labor Day already is moving quickly through the process. Is that a reasonable time for school to start? Do you think state lawmakers should be the ones deciding? Tell us what you think.

No, it is ludicrous to let lawmakers decide! They are all too old to remember what it is like to have to get ready for school. The parents should have a say on what is best for the kids. Not our government!

We elect lawmakers to set standards. While I am not always thrilled with their “standards”, does it really make a difference if they establish when school commences? You still have to attend school the same number of days. You either begin school earlier when it is still warm or you have a later start and end when it’s still warm. I can’t see much of a savings in electricity over running a/c in August rather than into June. So you begin your shopping early, don’t we do that anyway? I frankly appreciate having a schedule slightly off to those elsewhere. It sure is nice to venture the airport when not everyone else is doing the same.
