After days of intense searching, investigators found the body of 9-year-old Jessica Marie Lunsford on March 19, 2005, in John Evander Couey’s back yard. He has pleaded not guilty.

Yes, everyone is intitaled to their day in court. The evidence should be seen, reviewed, weighed and judgement should be passed. But please, don’t let the judgement drag out. Let their be swift justice for Jessica. Let their be an end to this sad, pathetic, horrific, and useless life such as John Couey. He doesn’t deserve to live, much less, be given that so call horific sentence or Life. He would just be laughing at us all the way to his retirement, where we the people will support him for the rest of his miserable life. Do us all a favor and hang him until he rots.

My heart goes out to Mark and his family. I agree that Couey needs to pay for what he did. I just want to Thank Mark for all he has done after this happened. He has a Great Heart and I am sure that Jessica is holding his heart and hand thru this all. She was and is a Beautiful Butterfly. I take my hat off to you Mark and God bless you. thank You for getting things done to protect our children. The more we all do the less the control the Couey’s get.

I totally agree with most of everybody’s statements, but I’m old fashion. An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth, he should be put through the same hell Jessica went through and have a very slow and painful death, burying him alive would be a great idea after he was raped numerous times. I’m a parent of 3 and if I had my way about that would be my way. Thank God that he is finally going on trail, which took to long!!!!!

to Denny, Yes, our wonderful judicial system certainly helped protect little Jessica, now didn’t it? If our judicial system worked right, Couey would have been put to death after his first offense and the worm would not have been around to be slithering about to kidnap, rape and bury sweet Jessica alive. You can have all of the faith you want in our legal system, personally, I think it sucks.

What about Coueys family, who protected him, lied for him and stood by while he tortured, raped and murdered this beautiful child, and then provided him safe passage out fo the state? Why don’t I see them on trial for the same offenses? I am sick to death of my tax dollars going to provide legal counsel, clothing, food and housing for trash like Couey. He needs to be put to death and to hell with his civil rights.

First of all Rose Sierke, and her hateful comments, needs to put the blame on the right person. Jessica’s father and her grandparents had nothing to do with what happened to her. Couey, a repeat offender, a registered sex offender, should have never seen the light of day after his first conviction. The death penalty should be automatic for child predators who rape children. I pray that someone blows his f------ head off before any more of my tax dollars are spent.

There definitely would not be any trial or horrifying news (only if the media would stop showing this type of garbage on their channel, IF JESSICA’s father was home as a decent parent and not visiting his female companion for the night. The grandparents do not seem that upbeat either so JESSICA’s family bears all the responsibility!!!Take care of your children, you brought them on this earth.
Mother of twin boys and one daughter.
Channel 8 should put on some decent stories and not just “white” trash.

"When found her two little fingers were poking through the bag in a desperate attempt to find air.” Almost a direct quote from the trib. Grab your child and hug them.

Something to think about in 1998 Bernice Bowen is charged with accessory after the fact to Hank Earl Carr’s escape and the slaying of two Tampa police detectives. She with held the truth that resulted in their deaths. Isn’t that what the worms sister did? What I am getting at is why isn’t the worms sister being charged as well. She withheld the truth, resulted in the death of an innocent child. If the state saw fit to charge Bowen her why not the worms sister?

David, no matter how much we all hate this worm we are all entitled to a trial and counsel. If we were not we would be living in the world of Naxi Germany or Sadam where people were executed just on suspicion. We as individuals cannot afford for this to happen. It is hard to fathom that this animal has rights and I hope he is found guilty but we can’t go back to the days of lynchings. This would be criminal on our part and would make us the same type of scum he is.

I, like alot of the other readers and contributors to these comments feel
that is being dsiplayed by our justice system. Not only is it an injustice to the Lunsford family, but it is an injustice to all of the law abiding citizens of this country. To waste the time and money on trying this CRIMINAL and worrying about his rights is criminal in itself. I truly feel like it will be impossible to find an impartial jury to try this “person”. The only people who haven’t heard about this crime are the dead, blind or the deft.

Joyce, I thought I was the only one who turns away every time I see his face on the TV. I think otherwise I would vomit.

Our criminal justice system is screwed up. Different crimes deserve different punishment. It’s not the same thing to rob a liquor store or embezzle money as it is to murder someone. As far as I’m concerned this monster gave up all his rights when he took away Jessica Lumford’s right to live. I say an eye for an eye....skip the trail, save taxpayer money and send John Couey straight to the chair. He wouldn’t get a fair trial anywhere on earth anyway.

Mark Lunsford and his family have remained strong through this ordeal and they certainly deserve all the support our community can provide in helping them through the rest of the process. As for the little “worm” who caused this whole mess, I don’t think there is anywhere in the USA where he could get a fair trial. He is guilty AND he is doomed! He is nothing better than scum. I find it hard to see his face when he turns around and looks out at the courtroom. He’d better enjoy the fine care and treatment he is getting right now, because we all know sooner or later, he is going straight to HELL!

What’s wrong with the Judge/Government?
The laws need to be changed completely,
because they’re against infringing on these perverts right’s! How do they even get the privilege of a trial ?? The little girl didn’t have a chance! If I were her parent’s, I would insist that he be set free!! Also the lady that beat her kid’s to death with a rock, and then claim’s insanity;
“How” “IF” your insane do you know it?
And , GOD certainly is not going to kill children ! If anyone has a Bible handy Matthew 19:13-14, Jesus say’s suffer the little children and forbid them not to come unto me ! Thanks for you time ! Norm McGregor

I hereby appeal to EVERYONE to refer to John Couey as “The Little Worm” from now on. He does not deserve to have his name repeated from anyones lips or keyboards. I hope the little worm gets croaked in jail and saves us all a lot of time and money. He is the devil reincarnate. Dont try to ask yourself “how could he have done this”, because there is no answer. Civilized, normal human beings CANNOT come up with a rational reason for this crime, other than the little worm is a sick parasite. No more with his name printed everywhere, as I am sure he gets to read the paper. Let the little worm NEVER see his name again. Let it be the beginning of him ceasing to exist. Sayanora little worm !!!

Yes Rebecca. You’re right. Who cares about this creep. His life how he knew it is over. Even if he gets off scott free due to some technical mess up by the cops or someone, he will never lead a normal life. If the day comes where this creep gets out, people will kill him plain and simple. Maybe we should save everyones time, money and efforts and let him loose in the streets and we can hunt him down.
Let him feel hunted and chased. Let him fear for his life.
I’m Hank Scorpio, Democrat and I approve this message.

Who cares about Couey’s Rights? He didn’t have ounce of concern for Jessica or her family. Stop wasting the taxpayers money and fry the monster.
Posted by Denny Crane, Tampa on 07/14 at 06:37 AM
Mr Jameson, unfortunately we have to live with the judicial system we have. It is not perfect but it protects everyone’s rights, even those who we believe are monsters and scum. To have it any other way would be harmful to all of us. We can’t pick and choose which rights we have, they are basically set in stone whether we think they are right or wrong. This is why we have a US Constitution. I would like no more to see this piece of dirt hang but it MUST be done legally. To do otherwise threatens us all and OUR rights.
Posted by Denny Crane, Tampa on 07/14 at 06:31 AM
Well folks, I hate to say I told you so but if the rights of Couey were not violated there would be no problem with the confession and we probably would have been able to seat a jury. As to the decision to change the venue “Judge Howard did not blame the media for carrying those images. He left no doubt, though, that he thought one in particular - a statement to detectives wrongly obtained, which won’t be heard at the trial - reached too many potential jurists.” The police have to obey the rules, no matter what type of monster they are dealing with and once again there is absolutely no excuse for this behavior. This type of behavior cascades and as we can see, this is what is happening.

The days they were covering Jessica missing I was home sick and placed on bedrest because I was 2 months pregnant. All I could think was when they announced she was found dead was “My God, what kind of world am I bringing a child into?” I cried, and cried and my husband and I were so very upset. I have to say Mark is a very strong man and I have full respect for him and his family for all they have endured. That John Couey guy should be tortured until he takes a miserable last breath on his own. I’ll tell you, if it were my kid, the person would NEVER make it to a trial. I’d kill them myself.

As the mother of two, I can say without doubt that this is the worst case I have ever seen. I cannot fathom what the family of Jessica Lundsford is feelign right now or how they cope from day to day.
Why are we having a trial for this low life? Who cares if he confessed prior to having an attorney, HE CONFESSED!! HE DID IT!! That cannot be disputed!
So, I say, trial over..take this little repulsive monster and let him loose in Tampa Bay, we’ll take care of him.
This guy and all the creeps that lived with him and just that..creeps, trash, low lifes...rid the earth of them.

Please someone stop this evil now. We continue to allow these people to propogate themselves, the average sentence for child abuse is 5 years. Any abuse, of any child, deserves the end of the abusers life. Immediately, no questions, comments, thought. A simple solution. Immediate Death. If I ever discover an abuser in my area, the Lord help save him from my wrath, for his judgement day will be fast approaching.
