Sorry to hear about the death of Channel 10 weatherman Dick Fletcher this morning. He was one of us; not just in the media business but in our community.
I only knew Dick casually but he was among that handful of “celebrities’’ I could call on for one event or the other to support a charity. He cared about the community and its people and how we treated both. One of his passions was studying the Florida environment and what we are doing to it. I’ll miss him.

My sympathies to his family and friends on the loss, but does Dick Fletcher’s passing justify an hour long special in prime time which cancelled the popular show NCIS? I think not. I’m sure he was a valued employee, but television never knows when to stop promoting itself. Shame on channel 10’s manager and its marketing department.

Dick Fletcher was a valued member of the Tampa Bay area, for many years.
The managers of channel 10 were doing a public service to honor a man who was part of our lives for many years. A tv program missed can be seen in reruns.A tribute to someone’s passing especially one who served the community for so long is so much more important.
My sympathy to the family and friends of Dick Fletcher
