Centro Greco Has A Ring To It

What should the city name in honor of former Mayor Dick Greco?

What about the Greco streetcar line? Or renaming Centro Ybor? Or the Riverwalk?

You have got to be kidding me?????
First explain to me what did Greco do to deserve to have ANYTHING named after him. I’ve lived here in Tampa all of my life, Dick Greco was just a “Good ol Boy” he did more damage to my City, over and over again and no one really knew what was going on UNTIL it srarted
to hit our pockets. By that time he was gone like a breeze. Now someone wants to name something after him? Why? Doesn’t that make you kinda MAD??????

Wow - if only those of you with such foul things to say only knew the kind hearted, generous and caring man I know.  I’m sorry you don’t.

Tampa has had and is still having a hard time “growing up”.  In my opinion our elected leaders try their best to do what they feel is right under their stewardship.  We will never all agree with their actions, but I have to give credit to those who try to make this a great city.

I’ll at least give my friend a pat on the back for trying to make Tampa a place where businesses want to be - that ultimately makes it a better place for all of us oridnary citizens and taxpayers.

Mr. Greco was the Mayor for the Rich and Powerful in Tampa , and was so far out of touch with the normal citizens , that maybe they can rename Palma Ceia Country Club ,or the Tampa Yacht Club after him . Or maybe since he did such a poor job on Maint. of the Caulk Joint between the Bayshore Sidewalk and the Sea Wall while it collapses and is being repaired the Barricades can have his name on them , or his Picture on them. He was also instrumental in removing the average Taxpayers from the Gasparilla Parade route so Big Money Corprate Big Wigs and there Click can have the best spots 0n the Parade route . We could name the Porto Lets after him . Mike Daniels (Average Taxpayer )

The issue of naming something after him won’t die until the City begrudgingly agrees to name something after him, regardless of how his terms appear a bit tainted in hindsight.

Re-naming a municipal facility like a Waste Transfer Station or Water Treatment Plant already named after a really important person - no matter how appropriate - would only lead to a nasty game of “name” dominoes.

Renaming an affordable housing project after Mayor Dick would be like naming a school after Jim Norman or a bus stop after Ronda Storms, so that’s out…

To appropriately honor Dick A. Greco:

Name a new City “bond fund” to pay the defaulted $76M mortgage on Ybor Centro “The Dick Greco ‘Secret Handshake’ City Mortgage Fund.”

I think the Citizens of Tampa should found “The Dick Greco Center for the Study of Corruption and Inepttitude”

I think we should rename the Taylor Road Landfill after him.

We should name Centro Ybor after Mr. Greco, since because of him, as taxpayers we are paying for it.

Mayor Greco wasn’t anything special to the city of Tampa, and he didn’t have much to offer its citizens either.  While his tenure as Mayor was a long one, he didn’t do much to progress downtown as a commercial or residential area; the streets of Tampa are still in poor condition; and Ybor City remains a hotspot that caters to the morally corrupt.  If anything at all, we should honor his minimal contributions by renaming Platt Street Bridge the Dick Greco Bridge.  Nothing special for a particularly unimpressive Mayor.

Renaming anything in Ybor city
with any surname other than
Cuban/Hispanic would not seem like
Ybor. What is with all this renaming
streets about anyway. Lets keep Tampa’s history sacred.

When I think of Dick Greco I think of Ybor, something in Ybor would be nice, a small street on the outskirts of Ybor, I agree with the comments above, keep it for BIGGER leaders.

I have lived in Hillsborough county all of my life, 44 years. 20 Years of which I lived in the City Limits. I do not see one thing Greco did for the city of Tampa either time he was in office except miss use of tax dollars.

Dick Greco Bar and Grill or his own jail cell at TPD.

There is nothing that I can think of to name after Dick Greco except maybe the next sewer line or treatment plant that is installed.

Greco wasted the City’s Treasury. 16 Million on Central Ybor, 7 million on the Tampa Art Museum, and 57 million on the Trolley Car. I recommend we rename the City of Tampa’s debt, “GRECO’S FOLLY’

Why should anything at all be named after Mr. Greco?  I have nothing personal against him, however, it is my opinion that an official in any capacity doesn’t have the right or entitlement to automatically have something such as naming a city, street, building, et al, bestowed upon him/her after they have performed the duties for which they were elected. Use the money it might cost for changing any existing name of a street, etc. to benefit the city’s needy, the schools, repave worn streets.

As a native of Tampa, I am happy that Mayor Greco is being aknowledged for his accomplishments in Leading our city for so many years.  He comes close to the legendary Nick Nuccio.

These are my suggestions for recognition:

Dick Greco City Hall
Greco Football Stadium
Greco Police Headquarters

Thank you for allowing me to post my opinions.

RENAMING CENTRO YBOR WOULD BE SO WRONG.
I PERSONALLY DON’T THINK ANYTHING SHOULD BE RENAMED BUT I WOULD CHOOSE THE GRECO RIVERWALK.

Wile living in the city of Tampa for more then 15 years I got envolved with civic groups trying to improve their neighborhoods. From improved police protction to simply the enforcement of city houseing codes. All of witch where cut under Greco’s term in office. Even City Councel begged for better inforcement from the Greco Amidistration.

Mr Greco didn’t even know what was going on with his top level leaders. “Mr.LaBrake”

One Park is just find for a Mayor that did little to improve the neighborhood in the city of Tampa.

Parks and statues need to be made of people that do good for the couminity.
