Florida is one of only three states that deny civil rights to felons permanently and completely.

taking away somebody’s right to vote forever should be reserved for people currently convicted in jail and just out on probation. Taking it away forever is not right IMHO.

What a shame the other 47 states don’t play as hard as Florida and the other two.
What about the thousands of 17 year olds who lived in far worse circumstances than did Melissa Clemmer and rose above their dispair and decadence and did not go out and rob a liquor store and bash the proprietor in the head with a bottle???
We all make choices in life and I for one am sick and tired of blaming “my upbringing” for every single thing that goes wrong in someone’s life. “Oh, but she was just at kid”. Phssssh, at 17 years 364 days would she still be a kid only because she hadn’t celebrated her birthday!??
Let’s lobby those other 47 states that allow felons a vote ... that’s where our attention should be.

It is the law. My son, also a felon at 17, also lost his right to vote. He doesn’t whine about it, he accepts it as part of his punishment for his particular crime. Grow up, people. If you commit a felony, you lose the priveledge to vote. We all know that! I don’t understand the need for a story about it.
People want to do what ever they choose, then blame EVERYONE else for it. This law doesn’t STEAL votes as the article suggests. SHE GAVE UP HER VOTE when she chose to become a felon.
