Fatal Wreck At Interstate Junction

By SEAN LENGELL

WESLEY CHAPEL - A 9-year-old girl was killed and seven other passengers injured — including five children — in a traffic crash on Interstate 75 in Pasco County Friday, the Florida Highway Patrol reported.

All were riding in a 1998 Ford Expedition that overturned shortly after 3 p.m. in the highway’s southbound lanes, a few yards south of the I-75/Interstate 275 split.

Chelsea Correa of Wesley Chapel was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene, troopers said. A 10-year-old girl and a boy between 7 and 9 also were ejected and taken by helicopter to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tampa.

A 3-year-old boy, a 1-year-old girl and a 4-week-old girl, all of Wesley Chapel, went by ambulance to St. Joseph’s.

The driver, Jose Navedo, 33, 1615 Spinning Wheel Circle, Wesley Chapel, and passenger Wendy Correa, 27, of Wesley Chapel, also were hospitalized.

According to troopers, Navedo was driving south on I-75 when he collided with a guardrail and overturned. The car spun into the path of a Honda Civic driven by Keila Ramos, 24, of Tampa, who wasn’t injured.

The crash closed southbound I-75 for more than four hours, with traffic diverted to I-275.

What the hell is wrong with you people (Frampton & Johnson)???? Don’t you think this family has suffered enough as it is? I’m sure that they they feel guilty enough, whether they did anything wrong or not. They don’t need to be lectured by you or by anyone else. It is NOT your place, or anyone else’s to judge them. If you can’t provide any words of comfort or sympathy for this family, then just shut up!!!! zipper I’m sure you’ve made some bad mistakes. No one else should be subjected to your bitterness and cruelty. You are a bunch of heartless bastards who are probably too negative to find any happiness in your own lives!

To the family, I met you all once at a Christmas party 2 years ago. I can’t come close to imagining what you’re going through. My heart goes out to you and my prayers are with you.

There are no words I could say to you Jose and Wendy, that could make the pain go away.  I can only ask God to give you the strength needed in this terrible time.  We can only be there for you and support you in a time when you need your loved ones and the ones that love you close.  I couldn’t be there with Juni, but my hart and my prayers are with you and the families.

Mr Roberts..I am a very compassionate person...for the children. They do not have the mature sense to understand the importance of using a device that has been shown to save multitudes of lives. They rely on their parents to teach them. Same as not allowing your children to play in a roadway where they can be hit by cars. I feel nothing but pity for the family, but am also very tired of seeing this same scenerio played out everyday, If an adult makes the choice to not wear a seatbelt...his/her choice. With a child, it’s not a choice but a responsibility. An Expedition is very large safe car..I feel that all would have survived this accident had they been strapped up. Pity for the parents but hope this can be used as a lesson to teach other parents to take their responsibility more serious. The car is not a playground!!

My heart goes out to Wendy and her family during this terrible tragedy.  I know her daughter is in a better place and may God help them through this tough time.  As for the insensitive comments, please remember that this is a family that is grieving and dealing with a difficult time.  Think before you spew such insensitive and hateful words.

As for Bob Johnson and F Frampton, In your comment. Some things should not be said in such a matter, your timing is way off. You know they have to live with this the rest of their lives, and it will haunt them.  Show a little compassion. How can you jump to conclusions? How do you know the 2 childrens seatbelts didn’t break? They were the only 2 ejected! The others were pulled out, including the carseats. THINK BEFORE YOU SPEAK, PLEASE. My thoughts and prayers are with the family.

There are no words to express my deepest heartfelt sympathy for Wendy and her family.  I know the grandparents Elsie and Thomas for a long time and Wendy since she was born.  They are wonderful people who lost a beautiful grandaughter and they’re parents to a daughter who lost her first born.  I cannot even imagine the sorrow that all of the family is going through.  I know that your faith in God will get you through this tough time.  The Lord has welcomed Chelsy into his kingdom to be your Guardian Angel.  You’re in my prayers.

Seems harsh, but I agree with Bob Johnson. The parents are fully responsible for the death and injury of the children. I feel for them and hope that if they had another chance they would strap up their children. Daily...even after the news of the horrible crash, I see children not only not buckled up, but doing accrobatics in the car. This is in New Tampa, very busy, very dangerous. I actually motioned to a gentleman in a black Mercedes to buckle up his kids the other day...and he did. Maybe I saved them and maybe Dad will cop a clue in the future. You sometimes only get one chance.

Bob Johnson, hold your tongue. You speak ill of a family that is suffering beyond your miserable dreams. You know nothing about the accident and it’s pathetic that you would say such a horrible thing. Wendy is a friend and a wonderful mother and my heart goes to her and her family.

The parents are killers, and should go to jail for not having their kids in seatbelts.

I drive that interstate everyday and I cannot tell you how many times that I have seen drivers at the last second turn from the inside lane to the right to get on 275 from I-75.
Let us hope and pray that more people aren’t injured or killed doing that.
