Wendy’s says it’s switching to healthier cooking oil, and Florida is just one place where the company has been testing it out.
The country’s third-largest burger chain says it will begin frying french fries and breaded chicken items with non-hydrogenated oil, continuing its shift to more healthful choices for customers.

Wendy’s will begin using the oil in August. It has been working on the new oil for two years and testing it for a year at restaurants in Florida, North Carolina, West Virginia, and Ontario.
Earlier this year, Wendy’s cut all trans fat from salad dressings. Last year, it started offering margarine with zero grams of fat per serving for baked potatoes.
Wendy’s already offers combo meal choices that allows customers to pick chili, a baked potato or a side salad instead of fries. It also offers milk and fruit for substitution in kids’ meals.
So, what do you think?
Amen to Kellie’s comment!
The location near my home told me just the other night they use peanut oil- which they never did before. Also their website does not reflect this. Beware if you have a peanut allergy like my daughter does!
Thanks Wendy’s, now I can eat the Great Biggie Fries I want and not feel that all of my arteries getting ready to explode.
The fact that people blame the fast food chains for making people fat is ludicrous. People eat too much..they have their Great Biggie Fry and triple cheesburger and expect them not to do damage. So lets lower the fat count in the oil. Ridiculous...stop eating so much junk and mix in a salad or a veggie from time to time. If that means not eating at Wendy’s, McD’s or Taco Bell then don’t do it.
We live in a society where everyone else is to blame for our lack of judgement or control. I can hear these people now.."Its the little red heads fault I ate that Biggie fry and now Im 400 lbs.” What a joke.
PS..I eat there all the time...I hope the fries arent ruined like McD’s are after the great oil change a few years ago.
thanks wendys, hydrogenated oils are in everything and we have got to get rid of them.
While this is a nice try on Wendy’s part Americans need to take responsibility for their own health. The bottom line is no matter what the food is if you consume more calories then you burn your going to gain weight. Its really sickening at the rate of obesity in this country especially in children,I’m in my 20’s and when I was in school there would be maybe a couple fat kids now the reverse is true. Its appalling what parents allow their kids to eat and the high rate of diabetes in children. I walk down the beach and see sick year old’s with stomachs that look like their dad’s beer belly. Americans need to get off their fat behinds and away from the “I Want everything Right Now Mentality” and thes gluttoness portion sizes.
i dont believe any of this cause wendys is just doing this probably to get more business. the food at fast food resturants are always going to fattening and the oil isnt going to change that. the only way its going to change if you use mineral oil to where it runs right through you and it dont have time to settle in your stomach. so wendys give me a break!!!
Great...now if the fast feeders would just offer more alternative sides like hot veggies, cut fruit, or rice blends.
I can’t do fried this, fried that, anymore; it keeps me from their doors and drive lanes. I could eat brocolli, carrots, or any combination of steamed veggies with a sandwich everyday, and happy to pay as I drive through.....
Thank you SOOOO much. Eating healthier is the number one objective....a major priority when choosing where and what to eat. I am happy to hear about less fat in the fries and nuggets especially because of the kids. If possible it sure would be nice for you to be the first to offer baked chicken nuggets and even fries! We would stand in line for that.
I’m so glad you are helping us by changing the oils. It matters alot to so many people. Quality and quanity go together to help us maintain our waistline. Thanks again! Joe Palaile
This is great news!
Nice try Wendy’s, a great marketing ploy but I am convinced that lowering your saturated fat intake does not rival portion control. We should not worry about the fats more so focus on how MUCH we eat, not what we eat.

Bravo, now take it out of your chile. Use olive oil or cannola oil.
