TAMPA - Beginning Monday, Waters Avenue from Dale Mabry Highway to Sheldon Road will be repaved.
The $2.6 million project will be done in two phases. The first phase, from Dale Mabry to the Veterans Expressway, will take six weeks. The second phase will be from the expressway to Sheldon Road, said project manager Thomas Fass.
In 2004, a microsurface was applied to Waters Avenue between Dale Mabry and Countryway Boulevard. In February 2006, rain caused the microsurface to fail, washing away some of the asphalt.
The work will be done between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. to lessen the effect on local businesses and commuters.
Work on Linebaugh Avenue, which has similar problems, will be done after the Waters project, Fass said. Work there should begin in November.

Thank god they are repaving waters avenue. I live off of Waters Ave and it is awful to drive. Every second you are avoiding a pit hole and it feels like you are driving on a dirt road. Tampa needs this repairment bad.
Many thanks to our County Commissioner, Kathy Castor, who helped lead the fight to get this problem street repaired; it has been a long time coming.
Thank You so much Hillsborough County, this Road has been needing this improvment for some time now.... Thanks!
How about adding the same thing recently added around John Knotts Village out there near Waters & Hanely Rds. Widening parts of Waters is still a good idea, but why or when is Hillsbilly County gonna do something to proctect all the innocent lives trying to shop near this intersection, I’ve seen way too many horrific accidents and too many people have died in this area… So come on county help us out, cause the next death in this area maybe someone you love. Afterall someone loved the 87 yr old women who died trying to go shopping there the other day, but like I’ve said the county only jumps in when it effects your loved ones.

"I’ve seen way too many horrific accidents and too many people have died in this area…”
Hillsborough County drivers are maniacs. They run red lights, make illegal U-turns, speed and drive aggressivly, drive while destracted on their phone, cut through businesses to circumvent traffic signals, and show a general lack of respect for human life. To say that widening a road or “fixing an intersection” is going to change anything is foolish. Start charging people with actual crimes such as reckless endangerment and attemted murder with real jail time instead of giving them a 50 dollar fine and you will see difference. Slinging a one ton pile of metal around with reckless disreguard is a CRIME that a road sign cannot prevent.
