SARASOTA - A second Sarasota Walgreens drugstore employee is facing charges in connection with the theft of narcotics.

Katherine Guiles, 42, of Sarasota, was charged Friday with two counts of grand theft and two counts of possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell.

Walgreens loss prevention personnel accused Guiles of stealing two UPS packages, which contained Oxycodone and several other prescription medications, according to the Sarasota Police Department.

Guiles, an inventory manager, was also suspected of stealing 200 Darvocet pills and $75 in retail merchandise during her 10-month employment at Walgreens, 3550 Fruitville Road, said a police report.

Last week police charged a Walgreen’s pharmacy worker with stealing 13,000 prescription pills. Tracie Trott, 32, worked at the South Tamiami Trail store.

It sounds like Wallgreens is run by Teco.

Why does it take Walgreen’s 10 months to figure it out?  Someone in their hiring office as well as their loss prevention department should be replaced with competent personnel.  They will put Sudafed behind the counter and have people explain in great detail why they need needles for insulin (sometimes to no avail), but they hire (and retain) people who are thieves.  Go figure.  CVS, you’re the best!
