ROME - A Vatican official says executing Saddam Hussein would punish “a crime with another crime.”
Pope Benedict’s top prelate for justice issues acknowledges Saddam’s crimes but says capital punishment goes against church teachings.
Cardinal Renato Martino is quoted today in a Rome newspaper. Martino says life must be safeguarded from its beginning to its “natural” end.
On Tuesday, Iraq’s highest court rejected Saddam’s appeal and said the former president should be hanged within 30 days.
Roy could you please give us the chapter and verse for your biblical quote?
its been going on since the beginning of time..............and thou shall be done.
Dude, you are scary. Where in the Bible does it say that a murder should be punished by death if two people witnessed it? Using quasi-Biblical interpretation for judicial use is dangerous. And people like you who use this warped logic are frightening.

The pope needs to read his bible a little closer. A murderer is to be killed when convicted of this crime as long as it has two or more witnesses to the said crime which in this case is not a problem. The reason he is to be killed is that he has attacked the very image of GOD. Beware of church teachings without a biblical foundation “
I wasn’t arware the 10 Comandments had subsections. I thought “Thou shall not kill” was pretty clear.
Bible also says you should beat your children and have sex with your brother’s wife if he dies without an hier.
Also Iraq is a MUSLIM country who cares what the Bible says to do.
Previous Popes had people killed that didn’t tote the Vatican line so I do find them to be hypocritical in this comdemation though. Of course most religions are hypocritical. I’m glad I don’t need some book to tell me what wrong or right or the fear of eternal dannation to be a moral person. I pity those that do.
