PINELLAS COUNTY – Pinellas County Utilities is warning residents of a possible scam.
The company issued a press release today. It said salespeople from at least one water treatment company are claiming to represent Pinellas County Utilities in order to get inside homes and inspect faucets or hot water heaters. Once inside, they try to sell the homeowner an expensive water treatment system, according to the press release.
Pinellas County Utilities officials said their employees would never attempt to upgrade a plumbing system and do not inspect or sell home fixtures.
They said homeowners should be cautious of the following:
The utilities company said that its drinking water meets or exceeds all state and federal standards for safety.
