Hello from Sarasota! Right now I’m sitting at the Sarasota Hyatt..the final stop for both Republican Senate Candidate Katherine Harris and Republican U-S House Candidate Vern Buchanan. Buchanan has the ballroom, Harris has the hotel’s restaurant.
I have covered Katherine Harris running for office in some capacity for many, many years. This is the first race where the Harris camp has remained—at best—tense. Even tonight as we join about a dozen crews from television stations across the state, a Harris representative demanded some crews move locations and cram in with other crews at the last minute. Nobody budged. A gentleman from the Hyatt later apologized on her behalf.
Is it a sign of the night to come? You couldn’t tell by the candidate. Photojournalist Pat Brammel caught up with Katherine Harris and her husband, Anders, waving signs in Pinellas County. Standing near Tyrone Square Mall looking polished and confident, Harris described the day as “fantastic” and “going great.” She remains upbeat and positive, defiant and downright angry when discussing the views of her opponent, incumbent Bill Nelson. Stay tuned. The election night latest from the Hyatt house still ahead.
