PANAMA CITY - A judge dismissed a federal civil rights violation claim against the Department of Juvenile Justice over the death of a juvenile at a boot camp for youthful offenders.
A U.S. district judge set an April trial date in a lawsuit filed by the parents of Martin Lee Anderson.
While dismissing the civil rights violation claim against the Department of Juvenile Justice, the judge did not dismiss the same violation claim against the Bay County Sheriff’s Office.
The judge’s ruling was on Monday.
The judge set a trial date for April 16.
Martin Lee Anderson died in January, a day after guards at the now defunct Bay County Sheriff’s Office Boot Camp were videotaped striking the teenager. An initial autopsy by a Bay County medical examiner found Anderson died of complications of sickle cell trait, a usually benign blood disorder. But a second autopsy by the
medical examiner for Hillsboro County found Anderson’s death was caused by suffocation due to the actions of the guards.
Anderson’s parents are suing for $40 million.
I HOPE THIS FAMILY IS AWARDED THE 40 MILL. I REALIZE JUVENILE CRIME HAS SKYROCKETED ACROSS OUR NATION, AND IT’S VERY SERIOUS. ON THE OTHER HAND THERE ARE SOME VERY HORRIFIC THINGS GOING ON IN THESE FACILITIES THAT HOUSE JUVENILES. YOU ARE NOT GOING TO HEAR TO MUCH ABOUT THESE INCIDENTS, UNLESS ULTIMATELY SOMEONE LOSES THEIR LIFE. SOMEONE NEEDS TO BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE HERE. TROUBLED YOUTH CAN COME FROM THE BEST OF FAMILIES.
This individuals family has now come out of the wood work wanting a 40 million dollar settlement even before the criminal investigation is complete. If it is found that the guards were culpible an award should be made on what this individual would be worth to society for the rest of his natural live. Aside from going to work for Donald Trump this would hardly be 40 million dollars. This punk would probaly have gone on to bigger crimes, never been a productive member of society and now his family which failed him in his younger years is trying to get rich off of the taxpayers.
Those people responsible for this young man’s life and the pain and sorrow that his family now has to deal with on an everyday basis should never see the light of day again!
My thoughts and prayers are with this
family and also the families of those
who committed such a horrible act.

Are you racist? If this was a white kid would you be saying this? I’m white myself but your just stupid. Did you not see the way these cops beat this kid? What let me guess you did no wrong as a kid? There was like 10 people beating this kid at the same time. Maybe it should be done to you so people can sit there and say how much you had it coming to you. Oh and lets not forget the people you leave behind I’m sure they will need money to survive. Anyways I have no more time for you. This is to the parents. Take everything that you can get. Even if you get the 40 million you will never be able to forget how your son was MURDERED. Money can never replace a loved one. I have two kids so I know how I would feel. Take all the dirty cops down.
