TAMPA - A judge has set an April trial for the man authorities say is the “Band-Aid Bandit,” adding a conspiracy count that will allow prosecutors to present more evidence in his trial.
Rafael Angel Rondon, accused of being the Band-Aid Bandit, was charged with conspiring with his brother-in-law, Emergildo Roman to rob several banks in the Tampa area of more than $500,000.
U.S. District Judge Steven D. Merryday today ordered that the two men go on trial April 2.
The Band-Aid Bandit, named after a bandage covering a mole on his left cheek during robberies was one of the most prolific bank robbers to strike the Tampa Bay area.
Authorities say he has robbed 39 banks in nine counties.
