The unions representing Hillsborough teachers and blue collar workers agreed to raises Wednesday averaging 8 percent for most teachers and 6 percent for most blue collar workers, including bus drivers.
The contracts are retroactive to July 1 after ratification by members of the Hillsborough Classroom Teachers Association, representing 14,000 teachers, and the Hillsborough School Employees Federation, representing 4,200 workers and approval of the School Board.
Last year Hillsborough teachers got an average 10 percent raise, blue collar workers, 6 percent.
The beginning teacher salary would increase from $35,012 to $37,112 under the new contract. Beginning bus drivers would start at $10.55 an hour rather than $10.15.
HSEF also represents mechanics, cafeteria workers, custodians and maintenance workers.
