ST. PETERSBURG - Ronald Lee Kennedy, 47, of Zephyrhills, was the driver who died Wednesday night in a fiery fuel-tanker crash on an interstate highway ramp just west of downtown, the Florida Highway Patrol reported this morning.
Kennedy, 4825 19th St., was driving the tractor-trailer rig loaded with diesel fuel for the Penn Tank Line when he crashed into a wall on the ramp to Interstate 375, which remains closed for repairs.
Patrol spokesman Larry Coggins said Kennedy was identified by dental records.
A St. Petersburg police spokesman said traffic flow was not snarled Friday morning, noting motorists used alternate routes to downtown St. Petersburg for work and the Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg.
An investigation into the crash continues.
George, you should learn to spell. You do not even care that a human life is lost. Nobody else was injured. Your idea of separate roads are rediculous, you fear what you do not understand.
I do not envision dual highways at each and every gas station or store that gets deliveries. You could be run over by one of the many idiot drivers in cars or suv’s at anytime then your family can demand seperate roads for idiots.
MY COMMENT WAS FOR GEORGE A. WHO POSTED COMMENT. PLEASE JUST IGNORE MY LAST COMMENT. I JUST FEEL PEOPLE SHOULD CONSIDER THE FAMILY AND OFFER CONDOLENCES ALONG WITH COMMENTS.
MR.KENNEDY WAS A GOOD HUSBAND,FATHER,AND GRANDFATHER AND WAS WORKING FOR A LIVING. HE WAS DELIVERING GAS FOR YOU TO USE. HOW INCONSIDERATE WAS IT TO POST A COMMENT LIKE THIS? NOT TO SAY ILLITERATE.
George it is so refreshing to see someone who cannot spell or even make sense in their attempt to bash an industry you know nothing about. Before you make such ignorant comments maybe you should think of the family who lost a loved one in this unfortunate accident. As for the cause of the accident it will be speculation even from the best of the police inspectors as the truck was so severly burned that they would not be able to inspect it for faulty equipment. As for the seperate roads lets do it, then we wouldn’t have to put up with the ignorant automobile drivers cutting us off just to get 15 feet farther ahead. What you should know is that every truck pays about $6500/year in road taxes, I hope that you are ready for that type of TAX increase for your seperate roads. PS. george you may want to check into some reading and writing classes so that you will be able in the future to make educated responses....
all big riggs and big comershal truck’s should not be part of regular traffic thay should have there own roads seperate from regular trafic and there own colsed in lanes with bariers away from smaller cars and trucks and the same on interstae and the same on public roads as well .there too too dangerous to the public

Well George. I can sympathize with you, but the truckers haul alot of our goods to the stores we all shop at or get those big ticket items.
We ALL need to be courtious to each other this includes the Big trucks.
If they need to merge, let them merge, please don’t pull out in front of them and then slow down. My husband is a trucker and he tells me about the drivers he encounters.
We don’t know what the cause was for this accident but it was VERY tragic.
Please keep Mr Kennedy’s family in your prayers.
