TAMPA Stream, a Dallas-based company that handles the tech support phone calls for hardware and software companies around the globe, is laying off 230 workers in Tampa, but will retain 400 other employees here and will consider hiring more people if it can secure more clients.
Stream spokeswoman KatherinÖ DockerillÖ said the affected workers were notified Tuesday. She said the company needed to cut the positions because it had lost a client, which she could not identify.
The company continues to seek out additional business, Dockerill said. When that happens, Stream may be able to hire more workers in Tampa, she said.
“The ideal thing would be for us to continue to sell accounts, and to be able to put accounts in that Tampa site,” she said.
Stream is owned by Miami-based HIG Private Equity. The company has 15,000 employees at 26 centers in 16 countries.
