TAMPA - Hillsborough County Commissioner Ronda Storms made it official today, resigning from her District 4 commission seat to run for Senate District 10.
Storms’ resignation, which is required under Florida law before she can qualify as a Senate candidate, will take effect Nov. 7, the date she would take office in the Senate if she wins that race.
The outspoken Republican commissioner said she’s confident she can make the leap from representing a part of Hillsborough County to serving constituents from three counties on a statewide stage.
“I’m sure some things will work for me and some things won’t,’’ she said. “I’ll learn. I’m a quick study.’’
Storms also noted that she has qualified for the Senate seat by petition, collecting the required 2,617 petition signatures to be certified in all three counties included in District 10.
Elected to the county commission in 1998, she is among four candidates vying for the Senate seat being vacated by Republican Tom Lee, who is running for Florida chief financial officer. District 10 includes portions of Hillsborough, Polk and Pasco counties.
Also running are former state Rep. Sandra Murman, Plant City building contractor Ray Young and Stephen Gorham, of Plant City, a telecommunications director for Hillsborough Community College.
Ronda is part of the “fake” Christian movment. If you want to be like Jesus do as he did and live your life in a way that you can influence others and stop tryng to legislate your own biggoted beliefs. Jesus never did what Ronda has attempted. He never tried to force people to comply to is way f thinking. he tried to touch and change hearts. Her brand of “Christianity” is disguisting and anything but Christ like.

I agree with each and everyone one of you. God have mercy on us all if she is elected Senate. As for her “Quick study” comment, it obviously is true. She studies so quickly she does not know jack ##### what is going on in the real world. She spends more time putting that makeup on her face (cake like) than she does caring for THE PEOPLE. Stephen Gorham all the way here. That man MEANS what he says, I know him personally and his family. He does not treat anyone like a number or statistic, but like a friend.

Big Smile! Now we will be rid of this obnoxious, arrogant person who perports to represent the people when all she does is try to further her own personal agenda. She has done nothing for us and is interested in her self supporting of issues which government has no business being involved in. Did you know she browses the libraries for books which she thinks shouldn’t be in circulation? She thinks she is the county’s censor. Good riddance to her. Now lets hope we don’t have to put up with her on the state level. Lets unite to get her defeated.
It seems as if the only people who think she’s done a great job are the people in her district. However district 4 is not the world and you people are not the only taxpayers in Hillsborough county. It would be nice if we had a commisioner who represented everybody and not just a select narrow-minded few.Also, how about someone who focuses on real issues, such as education, crime, overdevelopement,etc., instead of trying to legislate morailty.
So i guess everyone who wants to stand up for morality and deciency is considered a bigot. And people who stand for lewd and lascivious behavior are considered decient.thats ironic what was once considered good is now called evil, and what was once considered evil is now called good and acceptable. Commissioner Ronda Storms (District 4 - Brandon) is our strongest supportive member on the BOCC in helping us to protect our environment and potential hazards to current/future residents of HFW-NET (District 3).
The loss of Commissioner Storms will surely impose a loss for Hillsborough County in NOT having a Commissioner member willing to standup for the protection of others and our environment (not just in her District 4). Many times Commissioner Storms would bring fort issues that should be resolved before the developers drive-of-money would over-power in favor of the developers and their associated sellers.
Commissioner Thomas Scott (District 3 - our commissioner for NE Tampa) seconded motions founded by Commissioner Storms in our support. We are in hopes that Commissioner Scott should continue this supportive role in our protection as modeled by Commissioner Storms.
We wish Commissioner Storms the very best in her drive for the Senate.
Today is a good day… We are free of a mean spirit in the BOCC. No one that promotes intolerance, hate and bigotry should represent a community!
Now we need to let our VOICES heard with PRIDE!!!

Liberals:
1) Read the Bible. Even better, go to a bible study. You must educate before you can argue a point effectively.
2) Make a commitment to give God as much of a chance as you have anything else. Who cares if it has never worked before? Give God 30 days and start realizing that you cannot have a relationship with someone you don’t spend time with!
3) Make a faith filled friend. It may be easier than you think to relate to even the most conservative values.
The world changes one person at a time. The Ronda Storms of the world are not going to go away. They are not going to get old and die off. The Bible says that God is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow. Religious conservatives have been around for 2000 years, I am not taking those odds. But we CAN build more common ground.
Remember also, we will ALL be judged and ignorance is not a defense in any court - here or eternal.
Conservatives:
1) Go get a gay friend! You probably have several, but they are afraid to tell you because you may not like them anymore. They are probably right. Your new gay friend is not going to try and sleep with you, your spouse, your children or your dog the way many churches proclaim.
2) Stop your lying, cursing, speeding, divorcing, judging, cheating, gossiping and worrying. Stop imposing upon all the actions of some.
3) Don’t change your values, but do live them large with accuracy. No one wants what many Christians are offering right now.
You can change that.
In fact, it is your responsibility to do just that. You are the only Jesus some will see. Let your light shine and LIVE up to your Authority and Power. Establish the Word here on earth by your words and deeds.

I wasn’t thrilled with a “gentlemens” club, I struggle with interpretations to scripture that are not as I would want, none of these warrant behavior that relates to little more than bullying. You are in a position to bring the love of the Lord to millions and instead you patronize thousands.

This is the best news I have heard all week ! Finally the gay bashing, hateful, bigot of a woman who made a mochery out of all of Hillsborough County is gone ! I truly hope she fails in her quest for the Senate, as she is definaetly not qualified for public service.
All I can say is that I hope she goes down in flames and gets out of public life. It must be sad to be a human being so consumed by bigotry, bile and hatefulness towards people who intend you no harm but just want to live their lives. Even if she wins I hope she gets “slapped down” when she tries her strong arm tactics in Tallahassee. Surely their are legislators there who have their own thougts and don’t need her bullying them on how to vote on every issue like the Hillsborough county commission does. It seems all they do is vote how she tells them to on every issue anyway. Hopefully she won’t get away with that IF she makes it to Tally.

I am so glad to see so many comments on here against Ronda Storms. We do not need another right wing conservative puppet in our government. Everyone needs to get out there and vote to keep her out.
Commissioner Storms has been very supportive of our community as commissioner and I know she will continue to do so in the state senate. Her representation has been guided by both her dedication to the law and to her moral values which I know the majority of her constituents appreciate. She has repeatedly aided my neighborhood in our struggles with flooding and encroaching commercial development. Her staff assistants have been wonderful to work with as well. She will be sorely missed on the commission, however I look forward to her representation as my state senator.
I pray she will get some PROFESSIONAL mental health sooooooon. Ms. Storms looks and acts CRAZY.
I am proud to support Ronda Storms in her run to Tallahassee. I will miss her voice of reason that has not allowed filth to flood freely into our area; All those that think she is a pain will soon find out what I mean when she shakes up things away from here. I would like to find out where I can find the petition that will soon bear my signature and get her on the ballot. Good Luck and best wishes to you, Ronda!!

You are right. We all need to get out there and vote. We cannot have this lunatic representing us in any way shape or form.
I hope this is the big mistake that marks the beginning of the end of her miserable little political career. A mean, spiteful, small minded woman if there ever was one. She should be head of some fringe religious group and nothing more. She does not belong in government.

Im amazed at the people who post Bible scriptures with regard to public policy. Does it matter to any of you that all citizens are not Christian and that they do not share the same values as you? It is obvious that we learn very little from history. The spirit that prompted the early Catholic Church to disadvantage and even harm those who disagree with them is veryalive in religion today. Its really a shame.
