ST. PETERSBURG - Just in time for the Memorial Day weekend, city leaders Thursday opened a courtesy dock on the downtown waterfront.
The eight docks are available on a first come, first-served basis in the city marina’s Central Yacht Basin, along Bayshore Drive between Second and First avenues north, from 6 a.m. to 2 a.m. daily. The fee is $1 per hour with a six-hour maximum stay. Time can be purchased through a meter that accepts credit cards, coins and $1 and $5 bills. The slips can accommodate vessels ranging from 24 feet to 60 feet.
“With the marina in such an ideal location at the heart of downtown, we wanted to open an area for leisure boaters to be able to dock their vessels for day trips, offering more people the opportunity to enjoy special events or just an afternoon of sightseeing,’’ Mayor Rick Baker said during a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
