ST. PETE BEACH - The St. Pete Beach Police Department is getting a night vision device worth $5,000 as part of more than $1.3 million in federal Homeland Security grants to Florida and $34.6 million nationwide.
The device “will enable us to have the visibility we’ve been lacking at night,” Assistant Chief Dean Horianopoulos said.
Also receiving equipment grants were the University of South Florida, Plant City, Lakeland and Winter Haven police departments; New Port Richey Fire Department; Pasco County Health Department, and Polk County Sheriff’s Office.
The Department of Homeland Security awarded more than 2,000 grants to ensure that law enforcement and emergency responders receive specialized equipment and training, a statement said.
