LARGO – Indian Rocks Road is open as of 2 p.m. today after crews finished dealing with the aftermath of a broken sewage line.
Workers first had to repair the line, which ruptured Wednesday night at 12294 Indian Rocks Road and at the intersection of 122nd Avenue and 143rd Street, said Marq Caughell, spokesman for Pinellas County Utilities. That meant digging up a stretch of Indian Rocks Road in front of Anona Elementary School, then repaving it, Caughell said.
For the project, a stretch of Indian Rocks Road was rerouted into neighborhood back streets until this afternoon.
The sewage line itself was repaired by 6 a.m. today, Caughell, said. Results of some water quality testing are expected tomorrow.
Roughly 3,000 gallons were spilled at the sites of both breaks. Early indications pointed toward an over-pressurized line as the cause of the two breaks on the 12-inch main.
