Scott Schweickert
A federal judge sentenced Scott Schweickert to 40 years in jail, the maximum allowed under the law for his conviction in January for conspiring with Steven Lorenzo to drug, sexually torture and kill Jason Galehouse and Michael Wachholtz in December 2003.
U.S District Judge Steven D. Merryday said that the sentence was “palpably insufficient.” He also called the crime against Michael Wachholtz “calculated, cold and inhumane.”
The judge said that it was an abominable, detestable and predatory act.
The sentencing hearing was held at 8:30 this morning at a Tampa federal court.
Schweickert was convicted in January of conspiring with Steven Lorenzo to drug, sexually torture and kill Jason Galehouse and Michael Wachholtz in December 2003.
A jury also convicted Schweickert of giving the drug GHB to Wachholtz with the intent to commit a crime of violence. The jury acquitted him of giving the drug to Galehouse.
Lorenzo is currently serving 200 years in federal prison for conspiring with Schweickert and drugging and torturing nine men, including Wachholtz and Galehouse. He has appealed his conviction.
The Hillsborough County State Attorney’s Office is expected to make an announcement soon regarding murder charges against Schweickert and Lorenzo.
