TAMPA – By 4 a.m. this morning, crews had restored power to thousands of Hillsborough County customers who lost service during Saturday’s heavy downpours.
A total of 36,000 customers lost power Saturday, said Tampa Electric Co. spokesman Rick Morera. As many as 12,000 customers were without power between 3 p.m. to 8 p.m., he said.
The outages covered a wide area, from Tampa Palms to Thonotosassa, Morera said.
In St. Petersburg, Progress Energy had restored power to about 4,000 customers by this morning, said spokeswoman Cherie Jacobs.
