JACKSONVILLE - A Jacksonville father says he’s very remorseful about leaving his two young children in a car while he played a few hands of poker inside the St. Johns Greyhound Park.
Police arrested Terrence Davis on Wednesday for child neglect. A passerby spotted the children and called police. Neither of the children was harmed.
Davis says he left the car running with the air conditioner on while he went inside the track. He says he had only intended to peek inside the park, but got talked into playing a few hands of Texas Hold ‘Em. He says he was only inside for about 15 minutes.
The State Attorney’s Office is considering whether to charge Davis under a new state law that increased the penalties for leaving a child unattended in a car for any period of time with the motor running.
