TAMPA - A death investigation is under way after a Friday night incident of two men reportedly fighting inside the dead man’s apartment, sheriff’s officials said.
David Metz, 51, died at the scene, 13706 N. 19th St., Building 6, Apt. 101, sheriff’s spokesman J. D. Callaway said. An autopsy is being conducted, he said.
Don Lane, 23, was arrested and charged with burglary with a battery. Callaway said Lane had blood on him when deputies found him about 11 p.m. outside the apartment.
Deputies were responding to an emergency phone call from Metz’s ex-wife, Betty Nidy, who heard a commotion in the apartment. Callaway said Lane told deputies he ran into the apartment because someone was trying to rob him.
