CLEARWATER – A man was killed Friday evening when he darted in front of a Rolls Royce driving across the Memorial Causeway that links Clearwater Beach with mainland Pinellas County.
The man ran into the path of the westbound car around 6:30 p.m. He was transported to Morton Plant Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Clearwater spokesman Wayne Shelor said late Friday.
The accident closed westbound traffic on the causeway for about three hours.
Shelor said the man, who was 25 to 30 years old and was not carrying any identification, ran into the path of the car. The driver, Ralph Leon Davis of Oldsmar, struck the man. He was not injured and no charges were immediately filed.
Police are still working to identify the man.
