TALLAHASSEE – There’s a new sheriff in town.
Today, Governor Charlie Crist appointed Colonel William B. “Brad” Steube as Manatee County Sheriff.
According to the press release, Colonel Steube, 52, was the chief deputy with the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office. He received his associate of science degree in criminal justice from Manatee Community College in 1999 and has completed numerous law enforcement training programs, equaling more than 2,000 hours of instruction.
The Manatee County Sheriff is the chief law enforcement officer of the county and is responsible for overseeing law enforcement and correction deputies to ensure the highest possible level of protection for citizens of the county. The Sheriff’s Office administers information and education programs that aid in the prevention of crime and maintains facilities for secure and humane detention of people awaiting trial and for those sentenced to incarceration.
Colonel Steube will fill the vacancy created by the retirement of Sheriff Charles Wells and will serve until January 5, 2009.
